Complete Light Bulb Upgrade
By Chris Henry

Ever want a little more light on the road? Well the market is loaded with tons of bulbs and claims. Unfortunately, most aftermarket bulbs are more hype than anything. Many manufacturers just throw a blue coating on the bulb and call them HID bulbs. In reality, most of the blue lights out there just cut down on the actual light produced by the bulb. PIAA is a leader in aftermarket lighting and has an excellent reputation. They offer bulbs that produce a almost white light, not the yellowish stock light.

Our test vehicle is a 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited. The WJ (99-01) Grand Cherokee uses 9006 bulbs (50 watt) for the low beam, 9006 bulbs (60 watt) for the high beam, and 9055 bulbs (55 watt) for fog lights. Just for reference, the ZJ (93-98) Grand Cherokee uses a dual element 9004 bulb for both the low beam (45 watt) and high beam (65 watt). The ZJ uses H3 bulbs (55 watt) for the fog lights. Although the ZJ is not tested here, the results would be similar as the light bulb design is the same. The ZJ uses standard bulbs so both the headlight and fog light bulbs are a straight swap, even easier than the WJ.
