Raleigh, NC – May 5, 2010 – Recently founded Hurricane 4x4 Parts has finalized development of its first in-house branded lift kits for the WJ Grand Cherokee, and will begin shipping on June 1, 2010.
Founder, Ren Babcock says “Our first focus is the 1999-2004 WJ Grand Cherokee. A very capable jeep with a small number of suspension choices for their owners.” Hurricane 4x4 designs their kits as a handling package, aimed at increasing the overall utility and driving experience of the WJ.
Babcock's background includes racing and tuning suspension for motocross bikes. “In motocross racing, suspension performance, specifically spring rates and shock valving, is everything. I feel like many 4x4 lift kits focus on one thing, to make the vehicle taller. Our focus is on the handling of the vehicle. The rate for our lift coils was carefully chosen. The kit is aimed to reduce negative handling characteristics found in lifted vehicles. Excessive wandering is addressed by the dual stabilizer and firm track bar bushings. Sway, brake dive and excessive sagging when loaded are reduced by our choice of spring rate.A WJ equipped with our suspension kit will be happy driving around town, crawling on rocks or flying down rough roads loaded with supplies, family members, armor and winch.”
The basic 4” kits come standard with a dual steering stabilizer setup, Doetsch shocks, and an adjustable JKS track bar with extra firm bushings for tighter steering. Options like Addco sway bars, and control arms with flex joints can be packaged at the time of purchase.
On common and easy to perform upgrade to squeeze more power out of a vehicle is to install a cold air intake. These intakes are generally less restrictive and often allow colder air into the engine. Follow along as we install a kit from AEM, The first impressions of the box and packaging was impressive, the package arrived promptly and in good shape. The box was a little large for the pieces in it. But otherwise it was exactly what was expected.
I had just walked in the door after a long day at work when I heard a knock at the door… "whohoo! FedEx man is here!" When I am asked to do a product review, the reviewing process starts immediately after the delivery of the product. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the box from AEM. The box appeared clean, no major dings or bent corners. So far so good!
Ok… so I didn’t want a snorkel… or so I thought after seeing my first one in a Cherokee several years ago. I mean, it look kind of odd to me. Besides, although it rains a lot here in Puerto Rico I didn’t envision me in a situation were an engine snorkel would do me any good. My ZJ had a 4 inch lift, large tires and the KN FIPK was high enough as for me not having to think on taking water through it during normal driving. Besides, everybody knows there is no snorkel for Grands so why fuzz about it…
