Have you ever been wheeling, in a really tough spot and your spotter says, “Cut your wheels hard to the right” only to reply “I CAN’T”? When you run aggressive tires, and wedge them against rocks, in deep ruts, or various other tough spots, your stock steering system just isn’t designed to have enough force to move them. Having been in the situation of telling a spotter “I can’t turn anymore” and not being able to take the right line, I knew I needed to do something about my steering. The 15 year old steering components under the hood just weren’t designed for 35+in tires and full width axles. I knew I had to do something to improve my steering; so I made a call to West Texas Offroad. The guys (and girls) at West Texas knew what I needed right away, the solution to my problem was a Hydro-Assist setup, namely their Redneck Ram Hydraulic Steering Assist Setup. This setup adds a Hydraulic Ram to your steering setup, adding close to 2000psi of steering force to your system. |

The XJ Cherokee has gained popularity in off road circles over the past few years. As the pool of affordable XJs increases more and more four wheelers are turning their eyes to these capable 4x4 wagons. Though they often get branded as grocery getters or mall crawlers the XJ enthusiasts are die hard fans and this fanaticism has drawn the attention of aftermarket companies. The end result has been a huge increase in the parts available for XJs from lift kits to armor and bumpers. In this article we'll address the installation of the Rock Krawler XJ Super 8 Plus long arm w/ rear coil over conversion lift kit. The Rock Krawler kit contains the arms, brackets, front coils, and rear coil over shocks. This Cherokee was already running the Rock Krawler long arm upgrade with a Rusty's lift kit. Rock Krawler sent their new bent lower control arms (more on those later) and their complete rear triangulated 4-link setup with coil over shocks. |

First off, let me point out that you can NOT do a body lift on an XJ. it is a uni-frame vehicle, which means that the body and the frame are one, welded, unit that reinforce each other. So lets take a look at two different concepts. |

One of my local offroad buddies had just recently finished doing a product review for Clayton Offroad on their TJ Longarm system. In the process, Adam from Clayton Offroad had mentioned to my buddy that they were also looking for someone to review their XJ Longarm system. My buddy referred me to Adam and shortly there after he contacted me, asking me if I was up for the task. |
