"SHOCKING SKIDS"
The new Jeep Wrangler JK Model, introduced in 2007 has certainly been a hit with Jeep enthusiasts. But, as is often the case, there are areas that can be further improved. Just ask the guy who goes out wheeling and breaks something. He's home the same night surfing the web for a better, stronger part or some other way to prevent a re-occurrence.
Such is the case with the lower rear shock mounts on the JK. They are certainly up to the task of doing what they were designed for, but if you drop onto the right rock, you can find they've been involuntarily re-configured.
Enter Kilby Enterprises of Burbank, California. Owner, Brad Kilby is an avid Jeep enthusiast who loves to break things just to see if he can design something better (a sickness for sure). To get a jump on things, Brad took possession of the new model JK early in their initial production and has been building some great upgrade accessories for them ever since. To address the rear lower shock mount vulnerability, Kilby came up with some simple, yet trail tough guards for them.

Donald Broadbent is a JK owner and Off-Road Enthusiast. This year he has decided to step up his game a little bit and try Class 1 Competition in RC Rocks at Rausch Creek Off-Road Park. He went to the experts at Rock Krawler Suspension to help him with his build and make sure his JK is up to snuff for the rigors of competition. First, a little background: Don’s JK is a 2007 model with a 3.8 Liter V6, 6-speed manual transmission, 2-speed transfer case, Dana 30 front axle and Dana 44 rear axle. Class 1 rules specify the suspension components must use the factory mounting points and factory concept, but may be beefed-up to handle the abuse of competition. This means no long arm systems and no suspension conversions. However, creativity will prove the wiser. Follow along and find out how. |
