Solid Axle Industries Ford 8.8 Heavy-Duty Diff Cover Solid Axle Industries has been a common name in off-roading now for a few years. The quality products they produce have been used by the top teams in competitive 4x4 events since Solid first became a company. Many enthusiasts know that Solid manufacturers everything under the sun: Bare differential housings, complete axle assemblies, kingpin knuckles, drive flange kits, and even the amazing SpynTec JK Wrangler hub conversion kit! What most people know Solid Axle for are their indestructible differential covers. Jeepsunlimited recently had the chance to install the re-designed Ford 8.8 differential cover in their project MJ Comanche. The axle build for this project was quite an undertaking, as we wanted to keep the budget as low as possible, while still retaining the swap strength that the 8.8 has become know for in Jeep circles. The OEM diff cover that came on this housing was plastic. Definitely not the kind of thing you want protecting your 4.56 gears when you are dragging all over the rocks and logs on a trail ride! We needed to make sure we could run our local trails, and still drive the MJ to work on Monday. Solid Axle has the answer, and price, to make this happen.

SEMA 2009 Naturally the Jeep Wrangler dominated the SEMA 2009 show in Las Vegas. There were too many to list, with too many things to list, but I managed to scour through the masses and pick a few that were my favorites, and I imagine might be a favorite of yours too. Smittybilt was there with their armored up JK. It was quite possibly my favorite JK there. On top of the HEMI conversion, Pro Comp Dual Sport Long Arm Kit with Fox Shocks, Rock Jocks Dana 60’s with ARB lockers, the armor really stood out and set it apart from any other Jeep there. |

Kilby JK Rear Shock Skids

"SHOCKING SKIDS"
The new Jeep Wrangler JK Model, introduced in 2007 has certainly been a hit with Jeep enthusiasts. But, as is often the case, there are areas that can be further improved. Just ask the guy who goes out wheeling and breaks something. He's home the same night surfing the web for a better, stronger part or some other way to prevent a re-occurrence.
Such is the case with the lower rear shock mounts on the JK. They are certainly up to the task of doing what they were designed for, but if you drop onto the right rock, you can find they've been involuntarily re-configured.
Enter Kilby Enterprises of Burbank, California. Owner, Brad Kilby is an avid Jeep enthusiast who loves to break things just to see if he can design something better (a sickness for sure). To get a jump on things, Brad took possession of the new model JK early in their initial production and has been building some great upgrade accessories for them ever since. To address the rear lower shock mount vulnerability, Kilby came up with some simple, yet trail tough guards for them.

There's a trick new product on the market designed to protect the body mounts on your Wrangler. Kilby Enterprises has developed a clever set of skid plates that are remarkably simple, yet effective.
They're called Body Clamz, and are designed to sandwich the frame mount to protect the exposed factory mounts from rocks, downed trees or whatever else you can toss at them.
This product is made of 3/16" steel, and supplied with stainless hardware for installation. The install is a breeze, and is easily done in a couple of hours. They are compatible with all aftermarket suspension kits, and can be used with or without a body lift. |

Millermatic 140 Auto-Set Welder As Jeep owners, sooner or later we all come to a point when having a welder would make a project much easier, or at least cheaper. The more you build your Jeep, the more having a welder around the shop can be a huge asset; however, not everyone has a big shop, or a 220volt wiring system readily available to handle a large industrial welder, or the training to run a bigger welder. So most people just assume they can’t get a quality welder, because of room, proper wiring, or ease of use. Well Miller Electric has the answer, with their Millermatic 140 Auto-Set welder, a high quality welder, that’s small and compact and runs on 120 volt power, and has “Auto-Set”, a breakthrough control that automatically sets your welder to the proper parameters for your materials. Auto-Set offers an all-in-one MIG setup, minus the guesswork! Simply set the wire diameter, set the material thickness, and start welding! |
