Post Rear Track bar bracket question

Okay, when I'm driving at slow speeds, I hear some thumps coming from the rear. Tonight I decided to take a look at my rear T.B. bracket. I couldn't tell if it was loose or not, but I grabbed the rear tow hook and pushed the ZJ side to side. There was some sway, but not much. If it's my bracket, will it suddenly come loose when I'm driving?

Thanks

Bracket shoudldn't come loose, but an adjustable rear track bar is the right way to go. I had a bracket and my axle would sway back an forth down the road.

I understand, but I just don't want it to be dangerous, that's all.

Well the bracket could come loose, but if it did it would be short for this world. I agree...an adj. rear bar is the way to go. The brackets have a tendency to break at just the wrong time.

Minimal amount of side to side sway in the rear is normal.

The rear track bar and bracket should not move at all. That's what the bar is for...prevents side to side movement. Rear end deathwobble?

There will be some lateral play no matter what you do, but it's not related to the trackbar. The tires deflecting slightly sideways, the c-clips allowing the axleshafts to move slightly, and body sway all contribute. If you're worried about the bracket loosening, do a search for a post I did a while back about a bolt-on tracket brace. The bracket, despite popular opinion, is still the best option I believe.

And I finally have a winch. But the mud tires are worn out, I pulled the lockright to make it handle better on the street (still have it in the box though) and the whole shebang is for sale now.
Except the winch.

Weld the bracket in place AND use the adjustable track bar.

Better yet, remove the shocks, coils, control arms, and trackbar altogether. Weld in some metal pipe in place of the springs.

I figure if you weld in a good 12" of lift or so you can fit 44's. Then who cares about flex?

Ok seriously, Michael is right. Alternatively you can weld a gusset to the stock portion of the tracbar bracket. Until you do one of these 2 things you will have ongoing problems with the rear tracbar.

To see if it is indeed loose, lay underneath and put a hand on the bracket itself. Use your feet on the body to push it side to side. try to get it rocking really well. Any play will be noticable both visually and you will be able to feel it with your hand.

Great thanks, I'll try this tomorrow. There is very minimal sway, but enough to get me worried.

Thanks again.
