4X4 System on 1983 Wagoneer

Need help with 4x4 system on 83 Wagoneer. I bought my father-in-law a nice 1983 4x4 Wagoneer, but it didn't come with any of the manuals. I was told that the 4x4 system operates with a vacuum. (Right or Wrong) There are also two 4x4 switches one on the floor and the other on the dash. The seller did not not know how/what the floor switch operated. Help?

I had a 1982 Wagoneer and I am looking for another one. If I remeber I believe it is Command Trac Setup with just the lever on the floor, but I am not 100% sure. Can't remember its been 3 years now.

You might want to try the full size Jeep forum too.

There is a vacuum disconnect in the front axle housing. Look at the front differential cover - if there is a tube running into it, this is the front axle disconnect. You can disconnect this hose and check for vacuum during idle. This will help you get one of the switches down, at least. :/
