Default Help with transmission problems please

I have a 96 with the 5.2...tranny has 108k miles on it....Well here is the story. When driving on the highway when I floor it to pass or if the cruise control is on and its going up a hill the tranny will jump down two gears instead of one. I have tried to adjust the TV cable to fix this but it really hasnt worked because what works on the highway doesnt work in town. When its adjusted that it doesnt kick down two gears on the highway it slips and jumps in and out of gears under light throttle driving in town. I have tried tiny tiny adjustments, Im talking hair changes and It doesnt help. Could I have a selonoid of a speed sensor going out? Im not very keen on transmissions so I was wondering if anyone had any advice. Thanks in advance

Mine would always shift into 2 when floored and going 60 or less and it would stay in 2 until 70+. Never thought it was a problem.

Downshifting from OD to 2nd is normal in that situation.

If it bothers you, just push the OD OFF button instead.

so its normal for it to jump down two gears and have it hit red line then slowly start to over heat your motor?

it should hit redline and then shift, it shouldn't hold at redline.

Downshifting two gears is normal if it's in OD. But it should shift back up once you're going good. And how long exactly do you stay floored to get the engine to verheat? It's a passing gear, I wouldn't think you'ld be in it all that long to pass a car or two, I know I'm not.
