Icon322 Mechanical fan upgrade.

The install is simple and requires only a wrench to secure the blades to the fan clutch. The main things you need are the fan (there are two you can use) and fan clutch (P/N Torqflo 922770)

Here are the part numbers for the fan blades:
DC Part Number 52079984AA Fan, Cooling, 5 blade $95ish

DC Part Number 55037650AA Fan, this part has been discontinued but can be found at a junkyard on certain Jeep Wranglers.

1) Engine has to be cool and off.
2) Install fan blade onto clutch with supplied hardware.
3) Carefully maneuver the fan unit into the fan shroud. The best way this is done is to slide the unit from the top, past the A/C reefer lines, into the shroud. This may be a bit difficult so don’t be afraid to push (not too hard of course).
4) Once the fan is in the shroud, start screwing the clutch onto the water pump. This may take several tries so be patient, it’s hard to get the clutch onto the water pump threads.
5) Thread the clutch nut all the way onto the water pump threads by turning the fan blades clockwise.
6) Start the engine, make sure there is no wobble. Let the Jeep idle for a few seconds with the A/C off, then rev the engine to about 3,000 RPM for about 30 seconds. You will hear the classic fan noise, this is normal.
7) Go for a drive! I recommend taking out the fuse for the electric fan just to make sure the clutch fan is working properly. If you do decide to take out the fuse, the CEL will come on because there will be an open circuit, this is normal.
8) Enjoy your new "overheat proof" WJ. You won’t even notice when your electric fan stops working!

Glenn J also made a how-to and allowed me to post it in my thread (thanks man!)

Fan, clutch and hardware.

The clutch and fan bolted together. The clutch comes with 4 bolts and 4 washers. Open the box in the store and make sure those are in there. I used a little blue locktite just to be safe.

All bolted up! The Mopar fan is stamped "Clutch side" to ensure you mount the fan correctly. This fan looks a bit odd with the offset blades. It looks like it should wobble...but it doesn't. The offset blades actually help when it comes time to install.

If you try to drop this in at the center of the fan shroud, you may have some problems. I was able to get the entire assembly in rather easily by going a bit to the driver's side. You can actually pull on the rad shroud and move it forward just a bit to create enough room. You may want to experiment with which way the blades go in. This is where the offset of the blades will help.

You'll now thread the clutch to the shaft. A quick note here. I believe Jeep installed a rubber cap/cover on the threads at the factory. I removed mine a few days earlier to inspect the threads. The threads looked fine...just a little scale rust. I used a small wire brush to clean that off. Then, a little carb cleaner on paper towel to get rid of the rust dust.

Thread the fan on by hand. I was able to turn the fan clockwise. It's a bit tricky to get the threads lined up, but I was able to do that on the second try.

All set! Fire up your Jeep and take it for a spin. The fan will spin at a good clip for the first minute or so of operation. The fluid settles in the clutch and takes a minute or so to move around. After that, you'll hardly know it's there.

I've only done one drive, but it appears that the Jeep is running cooler. I'd say it's running a few ticks under 210.

This thing moves some air at idle. Like I mentioned, it appears to move more air then the e-fan running at fullspeed.

This is a great addition. My total cost was $120 on this. I needed the fan, and didn't have the time to hunt for a cheaper one. I'm sure you can find the fan online for cheaper, even with shipping. The dealer sells it for about $70. The clutch is about $50 at AutoZone. The clutch comes with a lifetime warranty.

This is how the fan looks once it is installed.
