I am building my YJ and have decided to install a 5.0 HO out of a 'stang in it. I am also wanting to keep a 5 speed trans(currently has a AX5) but can't seem to find any AX15's near my area. Has anyone heard if the Ford/Mazda M5R2 out of the F150 will fit into a YJ without too much modification. Any reason this would be a bad swap?

Depends on what you want to use the jeep for. Mostly trail rig? Go NP435 and don't look back. I loved mine, granny gear fully rocks! 4th gears 1:1 ratio was plenty for a trail only rig also.

The HO builds most of it's power at higher RPMs (not off-idle). Unless you are planning on blasting through everything, it is not the best choice for a jeep. A truck 5.0 would be cheaper and more effective.

I'm assuming he has the 4 cyc (AX-5). Even so, the 2.5 is so anemic that the 'stand 5.0 still has to make more torque at idle than that thing does!

We've got a couple guys in my club running Mustang motors, no problems at all with low end grunt.
