Are you getting a vic message that says "coolant sensor bad" or a check engine light or both?

No parts stores will only sell you stuff, you must book into a repairers who will charge for the service,Yesterday the check engine light went out but the bad sensor still flashed up a couple of times, whats going on ?

Two different issues Bazzer
Assuming you're talking about the "Coolant Sensor Bad" message on the VIC, that relates to the coolant level sensor in the coolant overflow bottle, not the CTS. If the bottle has the correct coolant level you can try checking for good grounds and proper voltage etc on the sensor and wiring to see if it's working or not but quite frequently it turns out to be cold solder joints inside the VIC itself that is giving a false message. Check around, I know there are threads on here about removing the VIC and resoldering some pins on the circuit board inside the VIC. As far as the CEL, maybe a pin bent or a wire broke at the connector when it was removed? Again, assuming the "Coolant Sensor Bad" message was the one on the VIC - if you did not have a CEL before you touched the CTS connector and then you got the CEL that might be the case. Was ignition on or car running when it was disconnected? If so that would def cause a CEL because it couldn't read the sensor. In that case it might go out after a certain amount of key on/off cycles (like a few days of drivings worth) or you could try disconnecting tha battery for five or ten minutes and see if that erases it. |

Thanks for that info, are you VIC message relates to coolant level rather than coolant temperature,CEL now gone out but car was not running when I removed sensor connection.

Looks like a word or two got left out there but - if you mean "are you saying VIC message relates to coolant level" then yes, the message on the VIC is ONLY about the coolant level sensor in the bottle (and it's frequently false) VIC will not tell you about any engine real problems - unless you get the "Coolant Sensor Bad" message and the overflow bottle is actually low. The earlier ZJs actually had an "Oil Level Low" message from an oil level sensor in the oil pan but that sensor went away sometime in 94 or 95. |
