Had a leak in my rusted tranny fluid line about a foot or so from the radiator. Took a tube cutter and cut the line about 2-3 in. from where it makes the turn towards the rear thus eliminating the area with the worst corrosion. My plan was to run rubber tranny fluid line from that point to the fitting on the radiator, about 18 inches or so. I couldn't get a tool to flare the end steel line so I secured it with 2 hose clamps. How long will these hose clamps hold I wonder without there being any flare in the tubing to keep them from sliding off? The lines are pretty gritty so there is plenty of grip, and I was able to get the clamps down pretty tight as well. I am having the line swapped Tues so I just need it until then.

Is it the pressure side or the return side??? If pressure, not long. return line will work just fine.

it is the passenger side hose, whichever that is. It has held on for about 20+ miles so far.

x2. Super low pressure on the lines. there isn't a high and a low pressure side. They both run the same pressure and it's like 3 psi if not plugged.

I had a 1994 chevy truck that has a piece of rubber line for the first 2' of the tranny lines from the radiator on both sides. I had to replace the line about every 3 years.

I did the same thing on a rock. Cremped the line. Cut it out and worm clamped it.
That was a year ago. You should be fine. |
