Default 247 or 249 in a 96 Grand Cherokee?

Everything I have read here points to a 249, but I call transfercases.com and they said that it could be a 247. Is that true?

Your other option is a 242. List options shown on your TC shift bezel and we can tell you. Easiest option is to see if you have a 2WD option, if you do then it is a 242.

Thanks for the replies. It is the V8 with full time 4wd or at least it was before I had to pull the front drive shaft from all the vibrations.
