Default Is there some kind of C-clip eliminator for the NV231?

I've got a problem with the output shaft in my transfer case. The shop I took it to said that the c-ring is broken, and I need to replace it... Or, the guy said that I can get a c-ring eliminator to prevent the problem from happening again.

I've never heard of such a thing, he said it was new, but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction...

If not, where can I get the replacement c-clips to keep my output shaft from slipping in and out of the case?

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, you need to get a slip yoke eliminator kit. This will move the slip yoke from your output shaft to the rear driveshaft. This kit teamed with a constant velocity driveshaft will eliminate vibes you have from installing a lift. HTH and for the record the shop sounds a little fishy to me, but you are heading in the right direction by asking for advice here first.

Been there done that, the SYE that is...

There's something wrong under the output cone (can't remember what's under there, it's been about 6 years since I had it open). The output shaft is sliding in and out, so I think a clip has broken, and needs to be replaced (or eliminated with whatever that kit might be).

Also, I'm not sure the guy called it a "c-clip" - he had some other name for it, I just can't remember right now.

[edit]duhh.... It's a snap ring, not a c-clip.... Any ideas? He may have been talking about the SYE, I don't know.... I just need to know where to get a new snap ring to keep the shaft from sliding in and out.[/edit]

well with an sye the output shaft has no way to slide in and out since its now converted to a fixed shaft. I dont know what the guy is telling you is wrong unless something in the sye kit has broken and the shaft is loose. Might wanna take some pics and post em up, most likey someone who knows what they're doing will spot whats wrong with it. HTH

Thanks for the help...

There's definitely something wrong. The case hasn't been opened yet, and is still at the shop - unfortunately, I can't see it again until Monday (they're closed for the Dream Cruise this weekend, and I'll be in AZ anyway).

The shaft is sliding in and out, about a half inch or so... Trying to figure out what might be wrong by looking at the old install guide.

The guy at the shop just said that the snap rings fail from time-to-time, and that there's a kit to completely eliminate them.

They do a lot of 4WD work, and most the guys in the shop drive Jeeps, so I hope they know what they're talking about.

The snap ring is usually what holds the drive gears on the output shaft itself. If one of them broke that would prolly explain the reason the shaft is able to move in and out a half inch or so. I've never heard of a kit that replaces the snap and lock rings?? If the cost to replace these is outrageous from the shop, it's not all that hard to replace them yourself if you have a good pair of snap ring pliers which are fairly cheap. HTH
