Default Which Flowmaster 70 series to get?

I want to get a Flowmaster 70 series for my 2002 WJ 4.7 (non-HO). I do not want to replace the full system and/or run the Kolak setup. Just looking for a simple exhaust sound upgrade. Does Flowmaster offer the 70 series in a DF?

Which size inlet/outlet do I want and what are the offsets?

Thanks in advance.

they dont offer it in a df. im sure it wont be too loud, but since ur going to a 3 inch exhaust it might be pretty loud for you. i still have all stock 2.5 inch pipe with a 40 series muffler on and it still is not loud enough for me. so im planning on going 3 inch from the y pipe back with a 40 series to satisfy my needs.

standered 40 series

70 series

u can see how much quieter the 70 series will make it with all that crap in side of it compared with 40 series.

I _AM NOT_ using the Kolak 3" system. Do I still want the 3" inlet/outlet?

o yeah sry. didnt see the "I do not want to replace the full system and/or run the Kolak setup"

just put a 40 series on and ull be fine. it sounds bad ass when u idle and rev it its just that it will sound like crap when u floor it. it will hiss. thats why u want to go with 3 inch cat and back.

heres my exhaust vid with just the 40 series muffler

40 series

Thanks for the clip shortyno10. I've run the Flowmaster 40's on previous cars (Mustangs) and do agree that it sounds great. I don't want quite that much noise on the Jeep though.

Do you have any idea of the inlet/outlet offset for stock piping? 2.5" Center In and 2.5" offset out?

between the stock cat and the stock muffler, the stock pipe is 2.25" everything else is 2.5" wierd huh. so my muffler shop cut the 2.25" pipe of right at the cat and replaced a piece of 2.5" there and then welded the muffler on to that then the tail pipe. and yes, it is 2.5 center inlet 2.5 offset outlet.

Then why waste your time? If you just want something loud, get another Mustang

The 70 series is ONLY available with DeltaFlow technology, according to the Flowmaster website, which states:

"The 70 Series "Big Block II" uses a large case for increased volume and added sound reduction that will still fit many applications that our 50 series "Big Block/HD" muffler won't fit. It utilizes Flowmaster's patented "Delta Flow" technology for maximum efficiency and reduction of interior resonance. Use on high performance street cars, trucks, SUV's, RVs and tow vehicles. Constructed of 16 gauge aluminized steel and fully mig-welded for maximum durability."

Waste my time? Not really sure what you mean. I'm looking for something slightly louder/more aggresive than the stock setup. The 70 series flow seems perfect.

I respect the work that Kolak does but don't have interest in spending more for slightly more power and sound.

My last Mustang was an '04 Cobra with 600HP. I don't think an extra 10hp from using the 3" setup will make much of a difference to me. Besides, this is my daily driver as well as tow vehicle.

02WJLaredo is right. You will be wastin ur time. I did the 3" muffler in and 3" tail pipe. cost me around 250$ plus shipping. if u go 2.5 to 3"in and 3" out, back to 2.5" its not gona do much. if all u want is better sound, get a 50 SUV series flowmaster. it comes in 2.5" in/out. I have a 00 Grand cherokee 4.7

FM70 2.5" CI/OO #52572

It will sound fine, even better with a Carsound converter. Been running this setup for 4 years/70,000 miles on my 01 WJ 4.7 DD/tow vehicle.

Unless they've recently "upgraded" the 70 series to Delta Flow technology, that has to be a misprint on their site -- the 70 series never was a Delta Flow.

If you're going to keep the stock exhaust, you want part number 52572. That a 2.5" inlet/outlet, center inlet/offset outlet 70 series muffler.

Don't expect much in terms of a power gain, but it will sound quite nice, with a deep, mellow rumble. You can always upgrade the rest of the system later on if the mood strikes you.

Thanks gobycat and Kolak. Just the information I was looking for.

Kolak, again I appreciate your work. Just not looking to maximize the power on this Jeep. I'm content with it's current performance. Again, I just came from a 600HP Cobra. Another 10-15 HP in a heavy SUV won't be too significant.

I was searching for something else and just came across this thread. I just had the same muffler installed on my Jeep as well. I got it for a little less, since I get a discount through work. I gutted the cat and had the muffler installed. You can notice the flowmaster tone, but it is pretty quiet. It sounds good just under 2000 rpm, but after that it sounds just a tad louder than stock. At WOT I can't even hear the exhaust, its all intake noise.

Thats why I wanna put some other muffler on. Its to quite for me. Ive got the 3" muffler and 3" tail pipe. My tail pipe hits on the spare tire unit, so Im gona take the tail pipe off and put on a scavenger turn down on right after the 3" FM muffler.
