Question odd noise when idling

Hello,

I have an '02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a V8 engine. It has 56,200 miles on it and I bought it used from a good dealership from what I have read and heard from others. Still had a new car smell in it and the seats were in perfect condition, which bodes well for the rest of the vehicle. Even had oil change information for the first 12k with it. The situation is, when I idle at a stop light or in Park, I hear a clicking noise that sounds like it is coming from the engine compartment. When I hit the accelerator, it speeds up. It is not very loud, and when I am driving I do not hear it, only when stopped or in Park and sometimes it is not immediate, the vehicle has to warm up. Outside of the vehicle, I can barely hear it if I put my ear close to the front hood near the wipers. With the hood up, I can't hear it because there is too much noise coming from other parts. What could this quiet clicking noise be? I noticed my RPM indicator kind of shudders when idle and I do feel some vibrations when I am sitting in the seats in Park or idle.

I posted in another forum and this was suggested:

" I think you have an arc somewhere in you ignition system. It could be as simple as a loose sparkplug wire. With a v8, you can have a miss on one cylinder and hardly notice it, and it may not actually be missing. A sparkplug wire that is not fully secured at each end could have a gap that the spark has to jump, but still gets to the plug to fire it.

Check each sparkplug wire to see that is is fully seated at each end. If all appears ok, then look under the hood at night. Its easier to see any arcing in the dark. If your vehicle uses coil packs instead of a distributor, look for arcing around them. If you have a distributor, remove the cap and look for carbon tracks inside it."

BUT someone else with a '97 Caravan claimed that they had a similar noise and they solved it by unplugging the duty cycle purge control solenoid. This caused the engine light to come on, but no more "clicking noise", which of course is a short-term solution.

Any ideas?
