I can't believe I'm typing this....but here goes.....
I bought an 05 LJ in August. Brand New. It has 5100 miles on it. I have kept it extremely clean. I installed a K&N FIPK Intake, Borla Cat back, a good stereo all around w speaker and added those tail light guards..... When I bought it, I got it durring that "Employee pricing Plus" thing. The sticker was 28k. I paid like 22 for it. It has the H-Package which includes the Premium seats, side steps, chrome grill (yeah yeah i know) 4 wheel discs, D44 rear. I really should have gotten a Rubicon. It was slim pickins when I bought the LJ and there were no unlimited rubicons in black left. But after getting into this, and learning a ton after the fact. I'm starting to wonder if I should sell what I got NOW with the little miles and MINT condidtion, make a good chunk of it back, and then get a Rubicon? I like the D44 on both axles, the lockers, and would get one with a hard-top. What could I sell this thing for anyway?? thoughts? opinions? WISE-ADVICE??? I |

I think you should be happy and move on. Have you looked at the true cost of doing this? Compared to just locking what you have? It's called Excel, and works well for something like this.
Whatever your puttin in your wheaties, you need to knock it off.....

what do you not like about it? the cost of buying, then reselling, then buying again will more than exceed the costs of whatever upgrades you think you will get with the newer vehicle. stick to what you got and build it.

You guys are absolutely right. I got a crazy bug up my arse and ran with it. I think I will build on what I got.
to be 150% honest, I had an issue when I had 275 miles on the new LJ. I noticed that when reversing out of the driveway and putting it into drive I sometimes hear this crrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRUNK! noise. It really REALLY bothered me. I took it in and they said they never heard of this....They called DC and then replaced the Valve Body(?) and deemed it fixed. The second I came to pick it up I got in the car with the service manager and recreated the noise. They said that they tested all the wranglers on the lot and some do and some dont. It now has 5100 miles or so on it and it doesnt do it as much, it still does it every now and then. I got the 7 yr 100,000 waranty with the extended waranty. And it is documented as having this issue at 275 miles so I think I'll be ok. And other jeepers have reported the exact same thing. Just annoying I guess...... But case closed. It will be too expensive....I will keep her. Hopefully she doesnt sense my infidelity and decide to get back at me!

You may want to wait. The new '07 LJ is supposed to be pretty cool. I would hang on and see what they come up with. Here's one of the concept scetches:

Lift it, lock it and love it. Have you checked your shields? Mine had the same noise at 11 miles and it was a heat shield....

not that it does it much anymore but when it was really bad, it gave a strong vibration. almost like a gear grinding PLUS something metal rattling....all in one....you can tell its right under the console area under the vehicle....

Like others have said, "lift it, lock it, and love it".
Mine had the same noise you are describing. I thought it was something to do with the clutches in the trac-lock in the D-44.

It still does it, it doesn't do it as much. I just figured that if it is related to my Trac-Lock, then it's doing it less because the clutches are wearing out. I have about 18,000 miles on it and a few people have told me I will be lucky to get 30,000 with the way I wheel. I could be totaly wrong about all this, as I am just going on what others have told me. This is my first limited slip that I have ever dealt with.

Keep in mind I am soaking up info as I go, but I thought limited slip refered to the diffs and not the tranfer case?

i think you should sell the LJ and get a TJ rubicon. the new axle ratio and transfer case gearing is better.
