Default Rubicon, how many inches before I need new driveshaft?

Ive got an 05 and considering a lift kit. I want to run some 33's on 17's. I dont have any plans on wheeling it, but still want it to flex and be somewhat functional. I was thinking about the RE 3.5" standard kit, will I be required to get a new shaft? I really do not see myself installing the transfer case drop if I put this on, it hangs too low as it is........

you'll most likely need a CV driveshaft in the rear after you go over 3". the front is fine.

You know the price difference for 15" and 17" wheel tires is quite a lot. The difference, for me, between 35x12.50x15 and 35x12.50x17 is so much I can't bring myself to consider the 17" wheels any longer. It's close to $100/tire. That's just not worth it unless I was running 37's or bigger.

And you may want to go see just how much travel your driveshaft has remaining on the splined joint. With a 5" lift and the factory driveshaft, don't be the least bit surprised if/when your driveshaft is pulled off and falls to the ground when your suspension is flexed on the trail.

Based on my experience, 2.5" is about the limit with the stock Rubi DS and an MML. You could go further with a t-case drop. You'll need adj. control arms to correct the pinion angle and a trackbar relocator (or adj. trackbar) to recenter the axle and make it drive properly again.

Mine is a 4" lift w/1" TC drop and with front end disconnected, I have not pulled my driveshaft apart either. This is with 2 yrs. of nonstop 'wheeling!
