Icon313 Damn OEM hood supports

I bought new ones about a year ago and already they are beginning to fail on cold, windy days. I think they cost about 30 bucks each from the dealer. Has anybody found a good source of reasonably priced supports that last?

Are they the newer style revised versions with the blue (left) and red (right) stickers?

Old style. What's the difference?

I've done that before. It's not my style. After the shaft gets chewed up it starts to leak and make a mess. And you need vice grips handy every time you open the hood. I've been using a shower curtain rod when I work on the Jeep. The kind that is about 1 inch diameter with a heavy spring in it and you can twist adjust it to any length you need. That saved my neck a few times on windy days.

Thanks, but no receipt. I'm sure it's been over a year.

I have been looking for the same part, i went to autozone and they said they have no part number or appear on the computer.

I need to take one off so i can compare to others in the store.

"New and improved", or so I am told... have not heard of any problems yet with the new ones and they went in to production almost two years ago.

That sucks !!! I replaced mine about 6 monts ago. I got the blue and the red ones as well.
Hopefully they won't fail 6 monts later.

How do you tell whether they are the "new and improved" or the "old and lame" ones ?

The "old and lame ones" did not have the blue and red stickers (the stickers add a little extra strength).

Stupid Question But - Is that blue (left) driver side red (right) passenger?

I need to get new ones myself. Personally, I think Chrysler should have to pay for this "repair". I have a 2001 and mine have been failing for 2 years, at least.

The stupid answer is that they are labeled left and right with the stickers!

I had mine replaced under the extended warranty about 6 months ago. I had them replace the rear hatch struts as well, as the were not a strong as I thought they should be. Make no mistake about it, DC will not make any money off my extended warranty.

I wonder if my extended warranty will cover that.

I haven't experienced any problems with my rear hatch.

Who was the seller? I could do a search on the seller's other items or contact them directly.
