I was considering replacing my stock Goodyears with the BFG All Terrain T/A KOs but I have a few questions that a search really hasn't answered:
I was considering going 235/70 R16 on my stock 16" rims - hows the city and highway driving, handling and noise in these conditions? I'm not a big off roader (yet) so would these still be a good fit or are other tires recommended? Thanks! |

I've driven BFG AT's for 10 years on my YJ, and loved them. For being a good off-road AT tire, they do really well in on-road situations. They have good traction, not a lot more noise than the stock tires, and last a long time if properly cared for (i.e. rotated). I had 3 sets and they all lasted over 40,000 miles before I thought about replacing them.
That being said, I just got a new set of Bridgestone Dueler Revo's in 245/70/16, and I love them for the month I've had 'em. The consistently rate higher than the BFG AT's in wet traction, which matters to me because I don't have ABS and I have an '02 without rear disc brakes. I don't off-road much (did in the YJ, not in the KJ much), so either of these two tires will be great for you. They're both (BFG and the Revos) a good balance between highway and an AT tire.

I went from the stock Goodyears to 235/85 BFG AT's in March (after lifting). These are a heavy duty (load range E) truck tire, which your 235/70's may or may not be when you get 'em. The ride is about the same as stock, slightly stiffer due to a 10-ply sidewall, but that's only noticable over big potholes (and is probably due more to the lift than to the tires). Noise at any speed is a non-issue; these tires don't make any more noise than the stockers. Because of the knobby, squared-off sidewall, you will notice a little more squeal/howl when turning at speed or doing tight turns in parking lots. Nothing to worry about. Traction, be it wet, dry, gravel, dirt, or mud, is way better than the Goodyears (haven't tried them in snow yet, but the verdict is they're definitely a cut above the stockers). Mileage may go down slightly due to a stickier tread design and/or a heavier tire; probably not noticable.
Overall, I highly recommend these tires. Just make sure your front alignment is dead-on or close to it, as uneven wear can really cut down on the tire life. -Bob |

I've got the BFG AT KOs on my '02 Liberty and they're noisy as heck, particularly at 25-40 mph.
They're so noisy that its embarassing when I take coworkers out. Other than the noise, I agree with the aboce posters. |

I'm going to take a look at the Bridgestone Dueler Revo's since I live in Florida and wet traction is crucial here due to all of the rain and the noise level is important to me as well. Tire Rack has the Revo's with a high rating (almost all 9+ across the board with a substantial amount of reviews).

Hmmmmm one guy says no more noise than stockers and another says embarassingly noisy and another quotes somewhere in between...
Hope they aren't too noisy for as I'm about to buy them.

Have KOs (All Terrain TAs) on my jeep for 10k miles, LOVE THEM.
Great on wet, fantastic on snow, far better than stock on pavement. Very tough, great offroad traction. Will buy more when these wear out (but doesn't look like it'll be anytime soon).

They're a little on the noisy side. Handling and traction are great. I'm now pulling a 3000 lb camper on a regular basis and the KJ handles straight and true, even when being passed by big rigs.

I can't believe people complaining about a truck tire being ambarrassingly lousy. That is one of perks of a truck tire.
More aggressive tread and 10 ply sidewalls will equate to louder road noise. Great tire, way better than the crapyears DC puts on a Jeep. Just another "IT'S A JEEP THING" you would not understand !:rockz:

It has to do with the fact that I use my Jeep for all kinds of purposes and not just off-roading. Plus when you highway drive frequently tire noise tends to get on your nerves.
I 100% agree about the stock Goodyears and that's why I'm looking for a good AT replacement and I'm down to the BFG AT KOs and the Bridgestone Revos. |

I have been running the BFG all-terrain KO on both my KJ's since day one as I went straight to the tire shop and swapped the stock goodyears for the BFG. 23'5/70 LT rated.
whoever said that they're not any noisier than oem's is dead wrong and in denial i suspect. that just can't be the case as the tread is alot more aggressive. they're a little noisy, but not bad at all and not really even noticeable after a while. you will lose a bit of mpg, but nothing more than 1 at most. rotate, rotate, rotate or they will cup, i don't care if your KJ is perfectly aligned. the tread is just soft. traction is first rate in snow and rain, and not bad off-road either. just watch out for wet grass where the BFG KO struggles. I've got just under 30K on mine, and they're about 50% worn. I rotate every 5000 miles. go for it, but if I were you, I'd go with 245/70's, as I wish I would have in the first place. the 235 just doesn't fill the fender as well as a 245 would. |

In response to all y'alls that said the KO's are louder than stock.
I had the Badyears on my Jeep for 18,000 miles, rotated them regularly, kept them inflated at 33 psi like the doorjamb says, and the damn things wore ridiculously unevenly and made a throbbing howl between 30 and 50 MPH. In comparison to that (and the general mediocrity of those tires on the whole) the BFG's are rather quiet. To you who have excessive noise: maybe you should check your tire pressure, balance, or see if your tires are out of round. Honestly, I've had people who drive Mercedes-Benzes comment on how quiet my Jeep is with those BFG's. Smoothness is another story, but that's more the fault of the crapass OTT kit than anything else. If you've got non-stock size tires, give BFG an e-mail with the tire size and the vehicle info (model year and trim level is usually enough) and they'll give you a manufacturer recommended tire pressure to use. Really, unless you guys turned your hearing aids all the way up after switching tires, I don't know why you'd think the KO's are louder. -Bob |

The noise is not excessive, but definately louder than stock. Even with our hearing-aids turned off we can hear the differance. Go to any tire shop and they all will tell you all-season passenger tires are quieter than truck AT tires.

Maybe I got a bad set of Goodyears. All I know is they were damn loud.
When I get up to speed, if the tires are making any noise, it's masked by wind noise. That is all. EDIT: for those of you considering getting BFG's that may have been scared away by all this banter about road noise: don't forget that the H2 comes from the factory with these tires. Considering that most H2 drivers have no intention of ever going off road, I would think GM wouldn't put an obnoxiously loud tire on their flagship "truck". You can't go wrong with the BFG's. -Bob |

ok, plain and simple. The BFG AT/KO's will make more noise than stock. Not to the point that it is excessive and annoying. They are a great tire and I personally don't think that someone should not get them because they make alot of noise. If you are looking for better all arround traction, go BFG AT's...You won't be sorry! I have tried multiple times to fish-tail my KJ on the wet roads...with the CrapYears, it would be extreamly easy, with the BFG's the Jeep simply won't fish-tail! Its great! Get em, you will love them!
