Default picked up my axles... need a little help

i got the numbers 37878 with a large 2 above them on the housing off my 44 front. the axle didn't have anything past the outer knuckle so i have no idea what it came out of. its 2 3/4 o.d. tubes. just curious if anybody knows where to go to run the numbers or if the #'s i got are even going to help. thanks.

Here try this Website:

The Dana Expert

That said your BOM number is wrong. All Dana axles have a 6 digit BOM number that is followed by a one or two digit check number. So it should read something like: 607321 8 or 358459 11

You will need to take a closer look. Hopefully the numbers have not rusted away.

It doesn't really matter. A 3/4 ton and 1/2 ton 44 (within a given truck usage) are identical other than the outers. Either can have 3/8" wall tubes or 1/2" wall tubes if that's what you're concerned about. Just look at the wall thickness at the end of the tube to figure out if it's as strong as you would hope.

Hey Snow, just out of curiosity what is different about the outers? I would assume bolt pattern but is there any difference in the lock outs or stub shafts or are they all internally splined hubs with 19 spline stubs?

Lock outs and stubs are the same. It's just the wheel bearing hubs with the eight lug pattern and a larger diameter rotor. Both use the same caliper.

ill go give her another run around. anybody have any idea where im supposed to be looking? i thought i was looking somewhere on the housing, but who knows. i did recall seeing some #'s on the axle tube, but most of them were gone, it looked as though they had just been stamped in the coating on the axle. thanks again.

Actually if you are looking at the diff cover they should be stamped on the right hand tube. There will be more than just the BOM there but like I said it will be a six digit number with a one or two digit check number. They were stamped into the metal.
