Icon315 Rough Country Lift

I am looking to buy a Rough Country Lift Kit 3.5 inch for a 91 YJ.
Do you have any comments on this product. I am on a tight budget but want something good in quality.

I had one for awhile and I did not like it I did not have good flex and I thought it rode very rough. They are cheap and come complete but if I had it to do again I would have saved a little more money and bought a better lift. I now have a 3.5" black diamond and love it much ride and it flexes alot better.

lets see,
the shocks are garbage
The springs are weak as hell. i have bent three of them and broken one of the rears.
The rears don't have an overload spring on them
DO NOT use the stock shackles with them or they will invert everytime you hit an obsticle.

Svae your money and get the BDS kit

Mine are pretty stiff. I scrapped both trac bars and the swaybar and it still doesn't flex they way I'd like.

i installed a 3.5" for a customer a few weeks ago. in my own opinion and from my observations...i concluded that the springs are basically new, stock YJ springs that have been re-arched....they are WAYYY short, even with weight on the vehicle. save your dough...go with an RE kit or BDS. if you want something along the lines of a rough country, just take your springs to a spring shop and have them re-arched....it's the same damn thing

I'll have to agree... steer clear of RC lifts for the YJ. When mine first went on my YJ, It was so bouncy that the next day, 4 bolts on something up front came loose. The shocks are the worst things put on the market, I switched to Rusty's Hydro shocks(100000000 times better). My RC shocks were literally defective, wouldnt de-compress. I put a winch up front some months later and it the lift sagged 1". Had I to do it over, I'd never have invested in the RC lift......:naw:

Had mine for over a year. The only problem I had was the front trackbar bolt coming loose. I removed front and rear track bars so that is not an issue. Flex was alright without trackbars after a few months of breaking it in. I paid $385 for the whole kit. Shocks, springs, brake relocation brakets, pitman arm....Definately got my moneys worth. I am now SOA becasue I went to 35" tires, othewise I would have kept the lift. If you are on a tight budget I would recommend this kit (if its the complete one for under $400).

Just food for thought O got a RE 2.5 lift for 505.99 shipped to my door...now I know that you wanted a 3.5 but RE makes them too and they are listed at the same price 80 something bucks a piece so maybe you could modify to a 3.5 kit for close to what you are looking at for the RC...personally I dont have anyexperiece with RC I am just trying to make your decision harder

Here is an important fact no one has asked you. What are you getting the lift for? Looks? Novice 4 wheeling? If so its cool. I have the 3" rc on my 88yj. It was the cheapest complete set. But this is my first wrangler and im a novice. I only do minor 4 wheeling and some mudding. If you plan on doing more or want the option of doing more i would spend the extra cash and get a better set up. Remember, you get what you pay for!!

Im one of the people who has actually had a good experience with a RC lift. Ive done some small mods to my suspension to make it work better. I have cut the spring clamps, run lift shackles with under-torqued (lock nutted!!) bolts, no rear trackbar, and have upgraded to DT-3000's. It flexes and rides well. I run a hiem jointed trackbar to help with the effects of the 'loose' handling I experience from the opened spring clamps and loose shackles on the highway, which I unbolt for the trail. I have a sway bar with disco's but never need to hook it up, it handles ok without. I would like to take the spring packs apart and lube the leafs, Im starting to get rust build up form the NY salty winters, which decreases ride and flex.

My one piece of advice is change the shocks. I had both Heckethorn hydros and nitros, one was softer than the other (forget which) but not as soft as the DT-3000's, which really help this lift. Plus I ordered the DT's to match my suspension travel.

If I were to do it again, knowing what I know now.... I probably would have started with some BDS springs and pieced the rest together.

I agree with that statement. Thats why for under $400 the "complete" lift kit not a bad deal for a noob.

Still using my pitman arm and bushings from the kit on my SOA. That's got to account for at least $100.
