Question What all do I need from Valco to get my CB setup going?

Hi guys,

I am pretty poor with electronics and wiring so my neighbor is going to help me and hopefully I can pick up some stuff.
I have a Cobra 19 Ultra II that I got for free and it only has about 4" of power lines sticking out of the back. It was good for being free. It has a PA switch on it too.

I am ordering a Firestick II I think or maybe a Firefly. Probably the 4' firestick though (adjustable of course). Also I was thinking of getting the quick disconnect and would anyone recommend a spring? It's going to be mounted low on my swingout.

I obviously need some misc. power lines and stuff but what other types of cable and stuff do I need?

I know for sure I need the CB (have it), antenna (getting it) i'm just a little lost on the small pieces I need and what not.

Please help

Thanks,
Seth

you are going to need some coax cable to run from the antenae to the cb unit. and of course some wire for power and ground leads to the cb. also if you have a pa switch you might want to get a pa speaker.

You'll need some sort of a mount. I used a cheapie one from Valco that was about $3. External speakers are a good cheap buy to improve the quality of your CB. You'll also want a SWR meter so you can tune your antenna.

I have mount 105AD

I run with a disco and think it's great for those times you don't want an antenna (garages and when you don't want to advertise). I run a spring too but only because I drilled the hole for my mount a little to close to my spare. If you get a good flexible antenna you won't need a spring. I've got the Wilson flex model and have twisted the heck out of it without any ill effects.

I hate how they suggest 18ft of coax. What a joke. I know I don't need that much and don't want 5 feet extra. Hopefully I can get a smaller piece.

As for the PA i've been thiking about picking up a Marine PA from Radio Shack

Ah yes, those mounts are what I guess I needed. I was trying to figure out how I was going to "bolt it up" to my mount on my tire carrier. Thanks, ill pick out of of those that looks quality and compatible then also I guess.

As for the antenna I thought the normal 4' Firestick or Wilson 4' flexed some. I really liked how the Firestick 4' looked too it was a pretty good match for my jeep (red jeep). I guess i'll have to check them out before I buy. I want to get good reception. Also Maybe I will not get a spring i'll just get a quick disconnect.

thanks

let me know if you think of anything else

You might want to get a inline fuse for your ground wire. Mic hanger if your buddy didn't throw one in. You'll also need a place to mount the CB in your Jeep.

valco carries power distribution blocks. lets you run one line from the battery through the firewall and disperse fused power to multiple add-ons: CB, Stereo, etc.
since you are going to be wiring anyway, not a bad thing to go ahead and put in. look in the stereo installation accessories section of their website.

Firestik II is a good antenna. The 18ft of coax thing is a myth, just use however much you need, and make sure to get good quality coax (50ohm)
