I need a replacement for the pinion-side of my front DS. I've done a search but found nothing anywhere. I know there are two types on the Rubi's DS, this paticular one has two different size trunion caps. They are 1330 style correct?
I do have an old subscribed thread that said the cap sizes were 1.12 and 1.06. Can anyone confirm this? I also have to replace the D-side front hub assbly so I'm thinking of replacing the axle u-joint at the same time. I hear cracking sounds when I'm in 4LO so I'd rather change at least that side and maybe keep the old one as a spare. so the axle joint is prt# 5-760x? Is there any other info I need to bring to the parts store like length from cap to cap or style? Please help me out if you can because I'd like to pick up the parts tommorow.

Is there any Rubicon specific forums that can help me out here? I know its easy to take the u-joints out and bring them to the parts store but tommorow they will close at noon and I really can't start the work till after that anyway.

Your ujoint that connects two the diff is a spicer 1330.
There are no different cap sizes for this. It's the same cap size as the 1310. And you are correct with the axle ujoint as well. |

Not to hijack your thread, but is it also a 1330 on non Rubicon TJ's?

Well, well, well... I wrote a big rant about the dealership but it got lost, I think the site was down as well. Basically the dealership is a bunch of incompetant bastards here in my new hometown. grrrr... I'm not even going to bother right now with that.
The 1330 is the style, not the prt #. There is also TWO different u-joints on the DS. The pinion side has two caps that are held in by the pinion straps, two are held by internal nylon locks (same as the axle joints). There are two different size caps on this one.

Now if they'd just used stronger shafts in the front axles... I guess it wouldn't be a Jeep if you didn't have to upgrade SOMETHING. ![]() I've marked the front axle half shaft U-joint caps to see if they spin (a precursor to them failing.) It's actually not the U-joint so much as the ears on the shafts stretching... so if you do have a problem with the front outer U-joints, it's probably a good idea to replace the shafts at the same time. Superior makes some good upgraded axleshafts, both front and rear, for the Dana 44. A lot of people put the Tom Woods CV rear drive shaft in their Rubicon's to eliminate vibes when installing a lift, and those shafts use a 1310 joint, so the 1330 isn't really necessary. A lot of people believe, and I agree, that something in the drivetrain needs to act as a fuse... if it's not the U-joint (easily replaceable) or hubs, you'll probably twist an axle, which is a bit harder to fix on the trail.
