The guys at MAD XJ have a good writeup on mounting a battery where the stock airbox used to be.

MAKE SURE YOU WIRE IT SO IT'S 12V NOT 24V!!!!!

You'll fry everything in the Jeep if you do!

If you are looking for more Amperage, Wire it pos to pos, Neg. to Neg. You DO NOT want the Batteries wired in Series.

Red to red, Black to Black.

I called the dealership today asking about the diesel battery tray that MADXJ used...$63.00?!?!? Seems way high for a piece of plastic.

Also, what type of switch are people using to switch between the two batteries? I see that Hellroaring Tech has one, and Wrangler Power Northwest http://www.wranglernw.com/ has one.

A while ago, someone posted this dual batt pic:

Anyone know who's rig this is? He has a nice set up.

Seems like a lot of these dual battery XJ threads die somewhat quick. No one really interested?

Checkout XJ dual battery

It's an Australian site and dual batterys are common here more for touring setups than anything else. My XJ will be getting this along with a 50lt Fridge in the rear Remember when it says drivers side it's passenger for you guys.

Cheers
Steve

I've seen lots of people talking about the space requirements of dual battery setups in XJs but I've yet to see anyone use a Dynabatt in an XJ. I've seen it in a CJ. You could easily fit two of these in the space of 1 standard battery and tehy are about the same money as a Yellowtop.

That's definitely a cool idea. Has anyone else heard of these batteries or used them? One of the reasons I was looking into dual battery setups was because I have two red top batteries. Anyone else have a dual battery setup they would like to show?

Here's a homebrew setup using parts from a local electronics shop and welding supply stores.

http://community.webshots.com/album/67867694oRFTUv

Just a note.... in my schematic (yeah, yeah I know I should make up a "real" one some day) I show a diode being used between the red top and alternator as well as between the blue top and alternator. This was to isolate the batteries from one another preventing one from discharging into the other.

Oh, also I made the starter look like a battery... not sure why but I did. The thing labelled "starter" is the...... well.. the starter and not a battery.

For some reason when I tried this method the alternator wasn't functioning properly so I had to remove the diode to the blue top (accessory battery). Now if by chance my redtop dies the blue top will discharge back into the red. Until I find a solution to the diode problem I can live this this as the red top is ONLY used during starting so it sees very little use so I'm not to worried about it crapping out any time soon.
