Icon315 Bump Stops??? Who needs em?

My 94 YJ has the RC 3" lift and those nasty gold bump stop "touch points" seem to have moved or shifted downward in the rear on my last trip. My question is, are they really necessary? Should I just take em off and allow my bump stop to make contact with the axle. Those who have em off please comment as to how you like em. Those who left em on let me know why.
Much thanks

Cheers!

If you installed them correctly they shouldn't have moved at all, since they mount under the u-bolt, your u-bolt must be loose in order for it to move, and depending on what size tires your running you will destroy your fenders.

right now they are both at like a 45 degree angle facing the tailgate. It this normal for a YJ? Ill pull out the chiltons and torque up those u-bolts.

loosen and retorque your u-bolt nuts...after you set the bumps stops back where they need to be ..I will admit I didnt put em on ..I have the Rough Country lift also ...got to that part and didnt put em on ...my factory bump stop has never hit the axle...the rough country springs I have are so freaking stiff they dont flex enough to worry about it... just my opinion though

I originally didnt have them on and could flex the 31's into the fenders. I put them on awhile ago, and it does limit my travel some. Its perfect for 33's right now. I plan to shorten them for my 31's then just running 1 inch body for the 33's. The bumpstops also keep the springs from going into a negative arch. Ive jammed them hrd into the bumpstops and they havent moved. Of course my u-bolts were tightened with a impact gun...

FYI-If you loosen the clamps on the RC springs, you will see alittle better ride and flex.

Fordtech,
I did loosen the springclamps up on the RC springs..which yes it did improve the ride and the flex a bit...which was a huge improvement I will admit ..before I loosened the spring clamps the ride woudl jarr me to death now it is a lot more tolerable...still goign to ditch em in the mext month or so and go for either BDS, or RE Springs

When we are talking about loosening the spring clamps...well i am talking about the clamps that actually are around the spring pack ...they are at each end and it looks like a big metal tab on each side of the spring pack ...I bent mine up to where they were sticking straight up then stuck a thick piece of steel on the spring pack and bent them back over the spring pack then removed the piece of steel ...it took a while to do all 4 spring packs cause you have 2 spring clamps on each spring pack ..you can also loosen your shackle bolts up some to allow more movement give it a better ride and some better flex as well...I think mine are torqued to like 30 ft lbs for my spring bolts at the shackles..but I used nylock nuts and some lock tite to make sure the nuts dont come off completely . Im thinking of getting some new springs myself.....the clamps and longer shackles helped some, but not much......let me know how your new springs compair ride-wise......i have no way to know if the rc springs are really that bad....

I had longer shackles for a little while I took them off and went back to stock ...they seem a little better to me...I will definately post any improvements with the new springs I get...it just depends..I am looking at BDS and RE...just havent made up my mind which to use...but from everythign I have heard these 2 are the best...RC is truly rough ...I tell ya my back can verify it...the DT shocks did help some along with the other stuff... but its still not comfotable enough..granted I know it will never be like a TJ but I also know it doesnt have to be like a freaking tractor...lol

I got the Rough Country YJ 3" suspension lift about a year ago and never even used the provided extended bump stops.

well, if you don't have them, you can overflex the front, and if your tire is turned, it will wedge itself into the fender, locking your steering up, and causing you to have to be pulled backwards up the steep ass hill you were just descending, making you feel like a complete jackass. don't ask how i know this.
