Icon313 Front drive shaft is smoking...

Ok drivin down the highway and suddenly i get this big clanking/ rubbing

noise from the bottom of my jeep. So i pull over to inspect and i cant find

any thing wrong. So i drove to my local mechanic and I looked at it again

and i saw that it was smoking hot right where the drive shaft meet the

transfer case. Im sure that the Front drive shaft is shot. I hope it is not the

transfer case. 4-wheel drive was still workin and all. I have the stock CV

    drive shaft

I have been geting lots of vibes from my front end recently after i put my 2.5

" lift on and i figured that eventually i would need a drive shaft. I didnt think

that it would crap this soon though

    What is my problem here??

I never had a problem at 2.5, haven't heard of a driveshaft smoking before even at 4. Did you check the TC fluid level? it sounds more like an extreme bearing failure, I mean you were still driving so clearly the input and atleast the output of the tc was semi working.

Sounds like the tcase. There is nothing on the DS that would cause it to get that hot. Also, at 2.5", you're vibes are coming from somewhere else. Check the CA bushings and if your caster is bad, you may need adjustables.

Well you usually dont need a new driveshaft untill like 4+.. But i am wondering if my drive shaft was bad before the lift and the lift just made it worst. I did use the right Fluid in the T-Case NV247.

The only thing that would be bad in the DS are the u-joints. Are they loose? Either way that wouldn't cause the smoking. It might help if you told us what fluid you used also. The NV247 requires the MOPAR fluid that is specifically designed for the transfer case.

I think I may be in the same boat, can you discribe the noise a little better? Mine has been sitting for the last few days the noise never got too bad and definately no smoking. I too recently installed a 2.5" lift which changes it's operating angle.

Mine will only make the noise while driving faster then 40mph and giving it some throttle. My noise is some thing between a tick and a jingle very hard to discribe without would prefer to resolve before I find out what it is the expensive way. :explosion:

I have 150k miles and have never serviced the driveshaft which doesn't appear to have ujoints BTW. Mines a 00 Q-drive and the joints look completely foreign to me.
