    Default P1491 02 Liberty Unlimited

Wife's liberty is throwing the P1491 code. Looks like that is for RADIATOR FAN CONTROL RELAY CIRCUIT. The jeep is driving fine and I haven't noticed any overheating. What else should I look for? Should I just replace this relay?

Anyone know where it is located on the liberty?

Fan runs when A/C is turned on.

    Thanks

May be it's throwing a false code. Have the code reset and if it comes back buy another relay.

I think it may have been false... After an hour or so I started it up again and the code was gone. We'll see how it goes.

Does anyone know where the relay is located in case I need to replace it?

Anyone know of a write-up to replace the radiator fan control relay?

    Or just the location?

The check engine light went away for a while, but came back. So I'm just gonna replace the relay. Just not sure where it's located.

    Thanks

The relay on my '02 went out twice. I didn't ever have any Code though, only the temp gauge went up if sitting still.

It's located on the inner left fender below the battery. I posted a picture of it either here or at L.O.S.T., and I have seen other pictures also.

I think after the '02 the relay was changed and moved.

Yup, its under the battery on the frame rail. They have updated it over the years.

Its possible its on it way out and threw the code.. May want to look into it as over heating the engine is never good.

I always swap the suspect relay with another (they are usually exactly same if sized equally) that operates a system and no problems there. That way, if you move it and the problem moves with it into the new circut/system, you know it's the relay. If it stays, then you know it's the circut.

While I was at it, here's a ( poor) picture from the other side across the radiator fan.
