do not go off that sticker, that is the build date, and will be wrong sometimes. a 6-7-8 month vehicle will usually be a year newer than the build date. I.E. 08-06 is a 2007 model. Go off the vin, only true way.

When I took out the plastic that surrounds the gauges and the radio, there was a build date on it, or at least for the piece. There was somewhere else too for mine but I dont remember.

Isn't it something like if the build date is August or September or later, it is the next year model. So if it was built in 9/1/05, it would technically be a 2006 model?

You could always check your title or registration ;-)

But the VIN link should tell you as well for sure.

buildate are subjectable, it all depends how fast a vehicle needs to be replaced, like our ford five hundreds, you will see new taurus's with a 5 maybe a 4 build date as a 2008.

Likewise for say the new 2008 powerstroke, if nothing changes and sells are good you could see a 8-9 on the build date for 2008 in 2008.

Our first 2008 super duty had a 02-07, by all purposes you would think that would have been a 2007 but it was not.

Read the emissions sticker under the hood.

It must conform to the emissions standard of whatever year it was sold as.

So whatever year of emissions it conforms to, that's the year of the vehicle (whenever it was built).

quite simply one of the dumbest threads in a while, due to responses. From the right they will have 8 numbers, then 9 will be a letter on 2000 newer 10 will be a number can tell you what year at a glance. Yours will be another letter though, someone posted what they will be. I would be questionable about a emission sticker.

Well.. I havent messed with the VIN but I looked on the door.

The build date is IN 2/98 and its not a WJ.. So Im assuming I have a 1998.

Seems kinda late build for 98 though right?

    Thanks,

Easiest way to tell the difference would be whether your Jeep came with a trans cooler. No = '98.

not really alot of our second month vehicles are for the year they are made. it can run up 5-6 depending on the vehicle.
