Question What does "TSI" stand for??????

Does anyone here know what the letters TSI represent in the TSI model of the Grand Cherokee?

Didn't they just steal it from the Eagle line?

As in the TSi Talon, the high performance AWD Turbo that can destroy a (stock) 5.9 at the track.

What years did they make the TSi?

Considering most TSi edition Grand Cherokee's came standard with a 4.0L I6, I would venture to guess the TSi Talon had little to nothing to so with "speed" or performace.

Back when we were looking at buying my 97 XJ Sport, I looked at a 97 ZJ TSi.

The dealer claimed it stood for "The Sport Edition" hence "TSi" . However the "i" in TSi really does not fit but I still think that is the best guess, considering it was somwhat of a base ZJ with "sporty styling".

The sporty Eagles were given the TSi label, so I was merely suggesting that it was borrowed by Jeep, just as someone might put a VTEC sticker onto a slammed Explorer. I actually find it to be embarrassing that Chrysler put the TSi label onto a Jeep.

Since most of the initials for cars are from French or Italian, does someone that is bilingual want to make up a term for this? Touring Sport Injected would be a Euro moniker!

The TSI was just a trim package like the Larado Z package. All looks, no performance changes.

Based on the answers I take it that no one that has responded really knows what "TSI" stands for. I have also sent this question to Jeep and they have not responded yet. Maybe it is one of those names that some engineers 3 year old came up with and only he knows the answer.....

It doesn't stand for anything, just initials to signify the sports appearance package.
Probaly just borrowed it from other ChryCo cars. You had the Talon, and there was also the Conquest TSi before that. It's just like Berretta GTZ, or Escort ZX2. Just some letters that catch the eye.

LOL, that's hilarious. Those ricers and thier stickers. I bet they couldn't identify what makes of car ANY of those companies make parts for.

Neuspeed stickers are popluar around here. I've seen everything from Saturns to first gen Isuzu amigos sporting Neuspeed stickers.

There is also an abundance of Type R Accords (the last 3 generations), Civics (2 and four doors, dating back to the 80's) Preludes, CRX's (which I raced and BEAT with my 4.0)and Integras. I've also seen a few Type R Mazda's and Toyotas.

I hate ricers and their stupid cars.

    Cool

Off topic. Go ahead and ignore/skip.

If we're talking acronyms here, my fave is the Dodge Omni GLH. I drove a Plymouth Horizon 2.2 stick for many years long ago and I miss it (40mpg easily!). And, since it was like a car engine mounted to the equivalent weight of a surfboard, it was fun to drive. Never even burned out the clutch before it rusted out. The GLH, of course, stood for Goes Like Hell. I wish I could find any of the 2.2 models to use as a DD.

It's gotta stand for something. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't just put some random letters together to put at the end of a vehicle's name without having them mean something. Surprised nobody knows!

Chrysler took it from Volkswagen: Turbocharged Stratified Injection

    Or maybe not...

I have no idea what it means. It is an interesting acronym but I don't think it goes with Jeeps very well.

A sporty TSi model (1997–1999) briefly debuted, exterior features included single color body paneling, with lower indigo blue striping and TSi, accent similar to that found on the Eagle Talon model. TSi packages came equipped with 5 spoke 16-inch (410 mm) alloy wheels, 225/70R16 tires, sport tuned suspension and steering, perforated leather seats, and a premium sound system. The 4.0 litre I6 and the 5.2 litre V8 were the only two available engines in this package. The TSi was priced between the Laredo and the Limited.
