Apparently the Snap-On one works - but it's part of a $1800 set. I drilled and tapped mine so I could use a conventional bolt type puller.

    Default Steering Wheel Puller

Sears, Craftsman, sells a two arm "Gear Puller"; 5 ton capacity, 3 1/2" reach; 6" maximum spread, Part#946905 that I have used to remove several steering wheels from WJ's.You do not have to drill and tap your steering wheel to remove it. The puller goes for about $20.00.

Nope , rent for free the autozone small 3 jaw puller and convert it in 2 jaw one (take one jaw out) and you'll see fits more than perfect.
No drilling, no mess and 5 minutes job.

When I swapped out my steering wheel from the stock Laredo one to a Leather Wrap with Steering Wheel radio controls, I took the new Wheel to AutoZone and showed them what I needed. Showed them the backside of the steering wheel where the two indents are for the wheel puller. Wound up with a Small two jaw puller that worked great.

Autozone 5 ton 2 jaw puller worked for me. They didn't rent it, so I had to buy it. Don't remember the price.

YEA...I did that too...afraid to pull too hard out of the airbag, it snaps and you wince as if it's gonna blow.

But yea, Im sure you realized that you leave this part attached to the clockspring.

EDIT: Did you get the wheel off okay?

The puller from Autozone is certainly the one you want to use. Just make sure it is not flat on the end that pushes on the column bolt. the one i have is flat and walked across the top of the bolt and slid down the threads. I need to go back and see if they have a puller that isnt worn out. The wheel is still on. ill switch pullers in the morning. the bigger problem now might be getting the nut back on the bolt after the new wheel is installed the threads are a little mashed.....might be salvageable though.

did the puller that you used have a "nub" or point on the shaft to center itself on the steering bolt? I think thi was what mine was missing. there was no way for it to stay on the bolt.

You really need to find this:

A 5-minute job with this tool. But you aren't alone, either...this was a multiple-day project for me, too!

DONE ! Without having to go back to Autozone for a puller that wasnt broken this would have ony taken 20 minutes. Here is what i used.

    Cool! Thanks everyone.
