    Question speed proportional steering

I am about to replace my power steering pump, but I wasn't sure exactly how the speed proportional steering worked--does it make it easier to steer at higher speeds or does the steering get stiffer? Id prefer it to be stiffer at high speeds so it wont feel as loose overall

Anyone know which steering pump 5.9L comes with? Is 5.2 the same?

Thanks in advance for all info

IIRC only the 96 Limiteds had that set up. what did your motor come from? a ram truck? I've noticed that the ram trucks have a different set up for the P/S.
slate 5.9 Limited, 6" lift, IRO/JKS/OME/Bilstein, 285's, Ford 8.8 w/Artec truss, '95 ZJ NP231 w/Novak shift cable & full SYE, straight piped, 6 pass trans cooler, police pkg alt, Optima Red, ZG front markers, front park light & turn mod, quad tails, Boston Acoustic/JL's, in dash flip up DVD, black windows, U jointed shafts all around, tow pkg & U.C.

Stone white 5.9 on 30's, glass ECE's w/custom harness, u jointed front driveshaft, clear corners. Pretty much bone stock, and will stay that way

I have it on my 96.

If I disconnect it, the steering is light at all speeds. When it is enabled, the asist is less at highway speed.

There are three parts to the system:

    Control Module
    Pump with a solenoid valve
Steering box with a "Speed Sensor" on the steering shaft

I'll post more info when I get my FSM in front of me.

So if I dont have it, getting a pump with it wont help unless I buy the other parts

Absolutely right. There is more to it than just a pump. It would probably be a chore to retrofit the speed proportional steering, especially with the modifications you have done!
