Newer YJ roll bar fit older YJ?

Will a 91 and newer YJ roll bar fit into a 89 yj? IF it will fit how much should I expect to pay for a used one? I would also have to look into getting it painted unless I somehow got lucky enough to find a matching color, any estimate on painting costs? I like the look of the newer ones a whole lot more.

You can find one for 100-200 in most pick and pulls. FYI, 91 has the old rollbar pattern also. 92-95 will fit but not anything later as far as I know.

It will fit as pretty much anything is interchangeable between CJ's and YJ's. Check with your local junkyards, you should be able to find one. I picked one up for $45 to put in my CJ... paint??? Do it yourself and save some money. I painted mine with a can of Rustoleum.

Some 91's came with the " Family Bar " My 91 Donor came with the older style bar..But a buddy of mine got a 91 50th Edition with teh newer style roll bar. as far as I know they will fit up to 95.. after that they are all TJ stuff and they don't seem to line up to the same bolt holes.

Hey Brian (assuming that is your REAL name), I just put a later rollcage into my '89. All of the rear bolts fit, but I think 4 out of 8 front ones fit with a little tugging on the bar to get it into place. The others are out alignment by 1/4" or so, so you can open up the holes to get all the bolts in. And I just roughed up the old paint on mine and sprayed it down with some flat-black spray paint.

Yes '92 to '95 will fit.
It still isn't a full cage, and doesn't offer anymore protection for the driver, so you will still want to add a front section.
