Hello. I recently saw this forum and it is great.
Here's my problem with my 1990, 4.2 liter, 258 cu in., 6 cylinder Wrangler with 146,000 miles. Last week I replaced the exhaust manifold due to a crack. At that time, I replaced the O2 sensor, spark plugs, checked the timing and made sure all vaccuum lines are good. I also removed one connector on the battery when I replaced the O2 sensor.
So, now when I start it in park or neutral, it runs smooth. When placed into drive or reverse the engine varies a few hundred rpms, "coughs" without quitting, makes a low thudding/pounding noise (not metal) and does not acclerate well (hestitation). But once it is above 30 mph or about 1600 rpm the engine doesn't "stutter" anymore.
Please help. Any suggestions. I am the orig. owner and like to be for years to come. The carb is factory spec and "not messed with" as of yet.
Thanks.
