Hi all,
A bud has a 95 YJ with 4cyl, 5 speed, 31"AT's, 2.5" BDS lift. The steering has developed a "pop" when cycling the wheel regardless of whether the motor is running or not. It does have power steering. We can find nothing binding, but you can feel a bind-release-bind-release as it is cycled. The ball joints, ujoints, and tie rod ends seem tight. There is no fluid leaking from anywhere and the symptoms are getting worse. My guess is that the PS Box is shot. Anyone have experience/comments with this??

TIA,
Mark

It is something in the stearing geometry. It is most likely a bad tie rod or the track bar bolt is loose. My track bar used to make lots of noise before I got a JKS adjustable one. I doubt it is te stearing box. HTH

Thanks Aaron,
I'm planning to pull the drag link tonight to see if I can isolate the noise to the box or the tie rod/drag link. Any other thoughts?
thanks.

Check the small ujoints on the shaft from your steering wheel to your power steering box. I have the same problem with my 89YJ. The lower u joint was bound up and causing that type of problem.

Also check the springs... springs can start to rotate slightly within a springpack, causing rubbing and popping. This is particularly possible if he isn't running a front trackbar.
