Hey I know allot of people like the WJ, ZJ and XJ and my wife and I own a 2000 Grand Cherokee and it is a Jeep, but when I think of Jeep I think of the MB, CJ, YJ and TJ’s. These are the Jeeps I love to drive. More so than any sports car or any truck. I have owned a Jaguar E-Type convertible and still own a Buick Grand National, but they are not near as fun to drive as my TJ. Actually I am going through withdraws not having my TJ for over 9 months now. As you can see from my signature the conversion on this Jeep is extensive, but I think it is well worth it.
This weekend my wife and I went to a Jeep dealership in Dallas to check on part availability and got talking to a salesman. After hearing how much we missed our Jeep he asked if we would like some keys to one of the new TJ’s on the lot to take out for a spin. We were thankful, but graciously declined.
This is leading up to a question to other fellow TJ, YJ, CJ and even MB owners. This Jeep design has been with us for 60 years now and it has helped to win wars to delivering our mail from our loved ones and bills included, but don’t you think this may be in jeopardy now. Why I say this is the site of a new TJ or TJ style vehicle is comforting that everything in this world just doesn’t change all that much. Since the Liberty (KJ) has come out I feel this will change. People in the CJ and Wrangler site may understand what I mean. I just feel it will be a shame that a Wrangler will be no more than a Liberty that the top comes off or anything of a futuristic moon buggy that looks like the new Jeep show vehicles.
I can honestly say I will miss seeing these types of vehicles on the road. It if fun to not have al the computer stuff from electric windows to leveling suspensions. It is nice to take the top off and hear the wind ramming into the driver’s seat. I will miss the current Wrangler if it does become independent suspension and all electric everything. Boy we have become lazy!

What do you think?

Regards

This is why so many have been bothered by the arrival of the KJ/Liberty- many of us fear what Jeep will do next with the "real Jeep" design.....the other Jeeps are fabulous vehicles, but a CJ/YJ/TJ is a special beast.

Just like the classic gurus say... preserve history and restore an antique vehicle http://forums.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/images/ubb/biggrin.gif

One day even TJs will be antiques... let's make sure they're still cruising the roads and trails 50 years from now.

I couldn't have said it better myself. After a day of sitting in front of a computer (I'm a software engineer) in a climate controlled evironment it's nice to climb in a bvack to basics vehicle. onew thing I enjoy about my Jeep is that on the weekends I can take off to places that people don't always go to, take off the top and enjoy the sun and some of the best mountains around. It gets me away from all the "less intelligent" people that I have to work for during the week. To me that is the essence of owning a Jeep.

I bought my '01 TJ for several reasons, none the least of which is my love of Jeeps. I truly fear that DC will very soon stop producing what I love and I wanted to make sure I got one before they become extinct. Maybe DC will figure it out, but I'm not taking any chances!

I have spent time on that site back when the KJ bashing started. I really do not understand the people who purchase that vehicle. I personnally do not think people who love or just enjoy there Jeeps should except the Liberty. If I want a car I buy a car. What is the purpose of the Liberty? We purchased the Grand because we travel in snow and enjoy the outdoors and the fact I wanted QuadraDrive for the safty of my family in the rain and ice storms we have in Dallas. The KJ will plow in snow and it hasn't much more ability than a Suburu. I do not think KJ owners know how to change the spark plugs themselves. We as Wrangler and CJ owners should speak up. I mean really speak up. We should tell anyone involved with Jeeps what the appeal to our particular vehivle is and it should not be monkeyed with. Remember the YJ Renegade that did not go well, but for the Yuppie it was liked. Continue to tell me what you think.

I am not all that concerned for one. You certainly hit on one of the more interesting topics in here, however, most of the true jeepers I have seen restored the older CJ's and YJ's because the cost to do so was about as much as buying a brand new TJ. The difference is in the end you have a custom rig for the same amount of money. Even though there are alot of Jeepers out there, I think DC is thinking economically given their recent troubles with the Chrysler division and they are trying to appeal to a wider demographic at the expense of the vehicle's integrity. The only way they may learn their lesson is when they find that the used Jeep market is growing while the new Jeep market is slowing. From there it may only be a matter of time before you see a serious effort on DC's behalf to "re-issue" an SE CJ or something along those lines. Or maybe I am wrong and they will concentrate soley on the Grand Cherokee market. This would be the death of one of the few true American Iconn's! Kind of ironic given the fact the Wiley's success against Germany! Just a thought.
