<font color=blue>[b]OK I bought this 91 YJ as a project Jeep. I was planning on selling it but am now keeping it. I need to do gears and lockers and need some suggestions. I was thinking of going to 4.11's or 4.29's due to the fact that I will not be going any higher on the lift or be getting bigger tires. With that silly vaccum front axle I am not sure what can be done. I am comming over from the Grand side and need thoughts and ideas. Has anyone tried a spool with the front axle? Seeing how the vaccum pushes a ring to connect the axle shafts I would think it would work, but the ring and axle might be too weak for a set up like that. Not sure. I would like to do an ARB in the rear but here again I am not sure if its worth it with a 35C I don't have the cash to get another axle and have looked in to the super axle kits, but ouch 850!?!?! I am on a budget of some sorts and that would kill it. Also I want to upgrade that dinky roll cage to a family style (Newer YJ and TJ) Still want to be able to put the hard top back on and not have too many problems with soft tops. Any Help and Ideas are appriciated.

Thanks
Doogie

First of all, get rid of your 35, no matter what it takes. Once it is uninstalled, proceed in kicking it and spitting on it. Move on with a better axle i recommend an 8.8 or a 44 then you wont have to hold back on the trails worrying about whether or not your 35 will blow. For the front since it is a YJ and the Dana 30 is reverse cut, thats an advantage. If i were you i would replace axle shafts with stronger ones and try not to worry about it. Assuming this is not your DD, go for the spool. Good luck

Could I get the axle to "unlock" by using a spool and unlocking it by dissengaging the vaccum lock?
