different air cleaner with stock carb?

is it possible to put a new air cleaner asembly on the stock carb? It seems incredibly restrictive to me. what to do with all the vaccume lines?

If the California emissions tests are half as bad as I've heard, stick with the stock air cleaner. It may be restrictive, but it keeps all the "required" emissions system intact.

I have yet to see an aftermarket, California-legal air cleaner assembly for the 4.2/258. http://forums.jeepsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif

I do believe, however, that K&N makes a replacement filter element for your Jeep. It's not going to gain much - if any - horsepower, but at least you can reuse it instead of buying a new one every few months.

Looks like it's time to start saving for the Mopar fuel injection kit. Heck, if the kit was available eight years ago I would probably have kept my '82 Cherokee. http://forums.jeepsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif

I had a K&N I think the dummies that did my tuneup jacked it or threw it away. Instpections are only once every 2 years so I can put stuff back if I want. Thats what I do on my TBI Firebird Formula.

I think DanB98TJ had a great idea with saving
to get the fuel injection.
