Vehicle has 132k miles, runs and looks great, but hates to turn sharply. Even worse when hot due to the clutch packs not releasing correctly. Before I go and replace everything, I want to try properly servicing the driveline and I understand there is a very specific service procedure for the 2 diffs as well as the transfer case. The plan is to pull the covers, clean, inspect and replace covers, then fill with a mixture of synthetic oil and posi fluid. My question is, what is the best oil/posi fluid brands/amounts. Do I go factory? Is there a better aftermarket product that gets the clucth packs working again? Royal(deep) Purple? Amsoil? Mobil 1? Any and all input is appreciated.

I assume the transfer case is just a matter of changing the fluid. Again, any recommendations?

The trans makes a funky muted howl when put in reverse when cold. I will service that as well, but I'm guessing it has seen better days.

Another thought is to convert the quadratrak to a regular manual transfer case. Is this feasable?

TIA for taking the time to read this and all comments are welcome.

What motor do you have? If you have posi then you could use cheap oreilly gear oil with a fm or synthetic if you wish. I recommend BGs fm and Mobil would be a good synthetic. I recommend all BG products but youll only get to use them if you find a shop that carries them.

When you service your tranny, forget a flush if you were considering it. Drop the pan and change the filter.

You can swap you 249(awd) for a 242 or 231. 242- 2wd, 4full, 4part, n, 4low. 231- 2wd, 4part, n, 4low. Id go with the 242.
