I have a 95 YJ that does not start every time I turn the key. Some times if I hold the key in the on position for a while it will finally turn over. The battery and starter are both good so I am assuming it is a loose connection. I sprayer cleaner in the fuse box hoping it was a corroded connector but no luck. My next step was to start tracing wires but wanted to see if anybody had another solution or idea.

I checked the ground from the battery to the block and the one to the body and they seem to be ok. I forgot to mention it is the 2.5L Any help is greatly appreciated!

That will be my next step then thanks for the help! Do you know about what it will cost and where I should look first? Or do I have to go thru the dealership? Don't I also need a special tool to pull it out? As you can tell I am not a savy wrencher but I am excited to learn. Thanks again for the help!

You can go to auto zone dot com. They got repair guide. Input your year and model Jeep. Then go to the steering section. thats where the switch is located.

My '89 YJ had the same problem, and it kept getting worse. The starter checked out OK, but since I had a spare starter, I swapped it out. No more problem!

I already swapped out the starter for a new one but it still did not work. Thanks for the idea!

Ok, still have not had time to work on it but I did have a successful trip to Vegas and won enough to cover the trip! I also bought a 2 inch shackle lift for $40. Can anybody educate me on the pros and cons of a shackle lift. All I know is that only $40 is a major pro in my book.

I solved the issue. I sold it! The guy who bought it put the igintion switch in but it did not work. He then traced wires for two days until he said screw it and by passed the problem with a push button starter. I thought that was actualy a pretty neat idea!
