I was looking at this website

http://www.nationaldrivetrain.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/page46.html

and checking out Ten Factory shafts and noticed they are showing them as 4140 and most websites are showing like superior or old alloy usa shafts are made of 4340, is the website wrong is there any reason to stay away from 4140 shafts whats the deal?

well it looks like the 4340 are for jk axles and the 4140 are for the yj. Which would be the biggest difference.

The answer is rears versus fronts. In the front applications we use 4340 as the steering axle and stresses are higher. 4140 is far stronger tha std. axle material and is an excellent upgarde for rear applications and is less expensive than 4340. It's the same as we used at Alloy USA.
