I've been carrying a canoe around on my topless YJ for a few days including on some rough roads. I noticed a (new) clunking noise when I hit bumps and found that one of bolts attaching a side-bar to the sport bar had sheared.

I've replaced both sides with non-torx grade 8 bolts. I have no idea what hardness the broken torx bolt was, but it drilled pretty easily.

I thought that this was part of the "roll cage" and that it should be strong enough to support more than a 60lb canoe.
</end rant>

I had one shear for no apparent reason several years ago.

If I would have known that this was common, I wouldn't have cursed myself when mine sheared off. I just ended up welding the bar back to the hoop.
