:jiggy:

Ok, back in the winter of '94, I strolled in to my favorite Jeep dealership. sat down with the salesman, ordered my 95 Wrangler SE with all the options and colors I wanted. A couple of months later and I took delivery of my beautiful Light Pearlstone Pearlcoat with Spice interior Wrangler. 4.0, 5 spd, A/C, tilt, leather wrapped steering wheel, add-a-trunk, alloy rims, full size spare, HD alt. and battery...basically every option except a hardtop.
Dated every girl except my very first girlfriend in that Jeep. Met my wife in that Jeep. Moved to Florida and back in that Jeep.
I added an O.M.E. lift, Currie greaseables, JKS quick disco's, 3.73's, Trac-Loc, Borla cat-back, and 31" BFG's, every top, cover, console and tonneau Bestop made for it, brushguards, lights, etc. Always babied and garaged. Had 30,000 miles on it.

Fast forward to 2001; married, new house, new baby. Momma's gonna go on leave from teaching and stay home to raise baby. No momma paycheck = not enough cash flow. Something's gotta go...you guessed it. Jeep went bye bye.
So...over the years other used Jeeps have come and gone to fill the need, 2 Cherokees, a 90 Sahara, but none of them really mattered.
A few weeks ago I'm in the mood to get rid of the Cherokee and get another 'real' Jeep (no offense XJ'ers)
I look at a few. TJ's mostly, (really don't like them) all the YJ's are 4 cyl's w/ 9 billion miles on it for $6500.
Then I start comparing in my mind to my old Jeep. Ahhh...my old Jeep.
I tracked down the guy I sold it to. It has a cracked manifold, 140k on the ticker, seats are in bad shape, power steering fluid all under the pump in the engine bay, mismatched tires, and has spent the majority of its parked time outside under a pine tree. I think I saw it cry.
It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!!!
I tell him I'm in the market if he's ever wanting to sell it. He says he is about tired of it and was about to give it to his 19 year old daughter to drive. :shreekz:
I ask him how much he wants for it. He says 'I don't know, I'd have to see what they're going for". So I showed him KBB and NADA prices, he says "well, I think $5,000 would be fair".:ohyeah: I would have given him 8 grand just to get it back!!!
So, long story short, I go pick it up tomorrow. He's still got the cab cover, bikini's etc...he never used any of those. He did at least put a new top oon it a few years back.
Guess I know what I'll be doing the next few days!!!
I'm sure y'all see a lot of posts here real soon as I go through it changing fluids, sensors, manifold, blah blah blah....
Thanks for listening!

Thats funny. I wish I could have tracked down my old 95 YJ but the guy I sold it too came from California to Texas to get it. I went with a TJ for the reason you said. All of the YJ's on the market had way too many miles.

Congrats.

Cool story. :)

I REALLY wish I could find/buy either my first, or second cars.

My first car was a '68 Plymouth Road Runner. Moviestar Paul Newman was the original owner.

My second car was a '56 Chevy Bel-Air 2dr hardtop 210 model. Engine & trans was out of a '67 Corvette.

I miss them both. :teary: :banghead:

Wow, what luck! Make sure you get it back up to it's original condition or better!

Great story... I myself keep going back and forth between my '93 YJ (w/ 44k) and a newer 04-05 LJ. Would love the extra room & coils, but I just can't convince myself to pull the trigger. Good luck and keep us in the loop :thup2:

Yup, sounds just like my story 'bout 25 years ago (the wife/baby part)!!! Only change the '95 Jeep to a cherry '63 TLC! (and no, I did'nt buy it new. lol)
I love my YJ, but I sure miss the old land cruiser... it was sure purdy. :)

wow. Drove MY new/old Jeep home to start the cleanup. I honestly don't think this guy ever washed it!
I've taken all the carpet out of it, hopefully I can shampoo it to resemble 'Spice' again. Vacuumed a sandbox out of it. There is an 1/8" thick layer of dirt on everything inside; dash, steering column, everything.
It is loud. Really loud. Angry UPS truck loud. The guy had said 'the header is cracked' and I figured he was right- the oem exhaust manifolds all crack.
So I open the hood to start cleaning it out some. Open the airbox- there sits the K&N filter I installed 100,000 miles ago!! -He didn't have to worry about oiling it either, since the airbox had a puddle of oil sitting in the bottom!!
Ok, starting to panic now. Then I see the ccv elbow at the rear of the valve cover is not connected to the vacuum hose that goes to the intake manifold. Further inspection reveals the rubber fitting at the elbow has melted away, the elbow itself is packed full of rubber and oil.
Then I go to check the oil, there is rust at the opening of the dipstick tube.
So- mechanically gifted Jeepers...
Do I remove the valve cover to replace the front and rear ccv elbows and vacuum lines? Neither one of the elbows seemed willing to 'pop' out of the cover.
