Does anyone know about stock Dana 44 mounted in some YJ made for army in Israel or another country (Asia or Africa)?
There's a store here in Italy selling them, and I should like to have more info before buying it. Is it really ready to fix on my Jeep?

THANKS.

A VERY few number of early Canadian Jeep YJs also came with D44 axles and are a perfect fit with later Jeep YJs. My GUESS is that the Israeli D44s are also a good fit. BTW, Central and South American countries also have YJs that come from the factory with Dana 44 axles. I saw some in Costa Rica and I know a guy in Venezuela who has a hard-top LONG WHEELBASE YJ (yes, 100% factory) and it has a D44.

Don't know about Europe, but I know Central and South American YJs had a D44 option. In fact, a local offroad store just got an entire pallet of the YJ D44s.

If they are the axles for a YJ, then yes, they are a direct bolt up. Jeep did have an over run of Dana 44 axles for the YJs and my dealer has a bunch as well. The running gears are 3.54 so you will have to match the gears or replace them. They also came with 11" drums and a trac loc as well.

A good find if you have a YJ.

I can say that it is a direct bolt in for a YJ. I have one on my Jeep that I bought for around $700. Its a factory Dana 44 with 3:54 gears a Trak-lok and the 11" drum brakes. I got mine with the e-brake cables also. Swapped it out and its a 100% better. I have heard that some YJ's had Dana 44's in front as well but I have yet to hear or see any proof on that. Anybody else know? Does anybody know why the Dana 44 option was never offered in the YJ in the US?

Hell if it came from Israel I scope it out for bombs. Crazy bastards!

My guesses:
1) The US market has more buyers who don't use Jeeps for work so they don't need the D44 (only a tiny percentage of the Jeeps sold are used for serious offroading, btw).
2) Don't US manufacturers have CAFE regulations where they have to meet an mpg that is the average of all their vehicles' mpg rating? If so, then saving weight by going to a D35 will improve mpg. In this respect, I think Jeep is at a disadvantage because they don't make economy cars...on the other hand, wouldn't their overall mpg factor in Chrysler's vehicles? I dunno.

Thanks to you all guys for the info!
Does anybody should like to know the store here in Italy? I don't think it's convenient for you, but, if interested, the store's name is Carollo Fuoristrada and it is located in North of Italy, Vicenza. It has about 40 stock Dana YJ's 44.
