just wondering if i could get some help, i am new to the jeep world this 95 yj with a strait six being my first jeep. I love this jeep and i want to put a few upgrades on it, but i also dont want to go all out spending lots of cash...right now i have a 4 inch skyjacker lift and 33x12.50 pro comp m/t tires coming, so far that is the only thing i have done to it. i just wanted to get some opinions on some other mods. i was looking into a few things such as a cold air intake, a jet module 1 chip, airaid throttle body spacer, detroit locers, and maybe even a catback exhaust...not sure what would be the best things to buy at this time. i would really appreciate any help someone could give me.

I can't speak to just what sort of terrain you are wheeling in over there but I think it's safe to say to ditch the ideas of "performance" upgrades for now. Skip the cold air intake, chip, etc... and focus on the mechanical upgrades or recovery upgrades first. A winch should be one of the first upgrades one does IMO (depending on what you're wheeling in of course). I'd also focus on the likes of SYE, Lockers, etc... long before I put in those so-called performance upgrades.
Cheers,

The first thing i would do is to make sure everything works/runs good. Then would be to check for then fix any rust or frame problems. You have a lift and tires which are the basic upgrades. Next comes some seat time to know what your weakness are and to address them. Just my :2cents:

thank you guys for your advise im going to get under there today and check again to make sure there is no minor or major rust damage that needs to be fixed. a winch would be a really great idea now that i think about it...ive also heard that when you get a lift and larger tires you may need to change up your gear ratio, i really dont know what or even how to find out my gear ratio is...is there any easy way to find this out?

^^ like those guys said, its a jeep not a sports car

heres my advice, save $$ and sit back and watch the forums for a bit i guarantee youll see some things you think youll need to upgrade.

the way to know for sure what your gear ratio is to pop the cover off and count the teeth on the ring gear and devide that by teeth on the pinion. but the redneck way is to raise one wheel off the ground in neutural and make a chalk mark on one wheel.... spin the one wheel 2 revolutions and count how many times the driveshaft turns. then find a chart on the web that shows what gear ratios are avalible and see which one is closest to what you counted.

most jeeps with the 6 come with 373's or lower. If I were you I would take teh advice of learning what type of terrain you perfer wheelin in, then decide from there. However it sounds like you have made the most basic of mods, in getting the lift. I would also agree that a winch would be your nest best purchase, they are great in all situations.

Offroad, on rocks that is, a little extra power doesn't make that much of a difference. New gears are going to give you your biggest bang for you buck. after the winch. just remember that if you do one axle you have to do the other. 4.10's would be nice if you are a daily driver, if its a toy then 4.55's or larger would be useful. Keep looking around, you are in the right place for a wealth of info.
