I have three different sets of Wrangler hard doors for my CJ-7. (full doors, half doors, etc) They all have different locks and different keys. It's a real PITA.

Can a regular locksmith re-key them all alike so I can use one key for all three sets of doors? Or, is this something that has to be done at the dealer?

How much should I expect to pay for something like this?

Thanks in advance!

Why in the world would you bother locking anything other than a full door? Anyone with a pocketknife has a key to a set of soft or half doors. All locking a soft top YJ accomplishes is you get your crap stolen and a sliced top for your troubles.

Thanks for your concern. Very helpful advice and it speaks directly to the topic.

While I agree with you, I still want to key my doors alike if it's all the same to you.

A buddy of mine took his two YJs to a local locksmith and had them make all the keys the same. So he ended up with an ignition key and door key that worked on both vehicles. I think it cost ruffly $100 for him to get it done.

Care to shed a little light on how you did it or were you just pointing out that you can do it yourself?

Are you a locksmith?

I payed $15 to have my doors re-keyed (half and full) and $6 for an extra set.

did it at a local ace hardware. I removed all of the cylinder (mark em) and brought em in. I sold the half doors last summer because I never used em though.

Wow! A local hardware store can rekey the door locks from automotive doors? I wouldn't have thought they could do that. I wasn't even sure if a locksmith could do it.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it!

There "claim to fame" is locksmithing, a car door lock is still a lock I guess. I would take the cylinders your not using and see what they can do

no I'm an engineer. I figured out how to do it while my door was appart. I've said how to do it before. You reset the pins and then put the key in there and then push the pins back onto the key. Its not 100% perfect because i didn't have the right tool but I think you can do it if you had a lady's bobbypin. i used a tiny screwdrive but I couldn't quite get the last pin so i have to pull my key out a hair for it to turn.

Scumbags here steal the half doors.

Simply take out the metal lever that connects the inside unlock/lock switch so only the key works. It would take them a good 30 mins to figure how to remove the door panel while the door is closed (the seat is in the way)

Just make sure your hardware is in good shape before you do this, or you will have the same problem as a would be thief.

Well, I've always said "Locks only keep the honest people out..."

But, around here I don't worry too much about them breaking into the Jeep. I don't leave anything in it to steal and I have a $10 cheap azz Wally World stereo. I have Tuffy locks to keep someone from easily lifting off the doors.

If someone around here was going to steel something, they'd look for an easier target. (open jeep, topless jeep, unlocked vehicle)

Again, that's my town. I'm sure things are worse other places.
