I saw a while back where someone posted about using YJ brake lines on TJs. Are the front brake lines longer on YJs? Can somebody measure a length for me? It would be a lot cheaper to get YJ stock as compared to aftermarket lines, I would think. Who has done this? Will that length be good for my S3T? Thanks in advance for any help.

I also remember reading something about YJ lines being longer. However, I am in my ZJ right now so I can't go measure them for you. I will send this BTT for ya and if no one else gets you the measurements, I can when I get home....

On my list of things to swap now that the list is done. I was told that the '95 YJ lines are about 3~4" longer than the stock TJ lines. (probably goes for more years than just the '95....but the guy I got the info from bought '95 lines).

I called AutoZone and they could not give me lengths, but said they could order them at about $21/ea ($42 for the front pair). Other steel lines I have seen go for about $90.

I did make some brake line extension brackets tonight, though. I will put them on tomorrow and see if I need to go farther.

Anybody get a chance to measure a YJ? Just the rubber part of the line.

How about measuring it thread to thread....that gives a more accurate length since I don't have any idea what the hardware at each end is like. http://forums.jeepsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

Stu,

I don't know whether or not YJ brakelines are longer than TJ brake lines. But, in any case, I can't imagine they would be long enough given the amount of flex TJ's have. I replaced my stock brakelines on my YJ and my YJ doesn't have nearly the flex of lifted TJ's. Now, if you relocated the connection point for the brake lines from above the frames to below the frames, then stock brake lines might be long enough.

I swapped the brakelines spec'd for a 95 YJ onto my TJ and gained about 2.5" of brakeline length. It bolts right up and also offers what I consider to be a bit more protection in that the hose exits the caliper in a more vertical position than on a stock TJ. I can't tell you the length but its more than enough with my 4" of lift - in fact, I am using a set of springs to retain the slack in the brakelines.

Roger,

Robert runs them (as he mentioned above) so I know they work.

The TJ metal lines terminate very close to the bottom of the frame, which is most likely why they provide the necessary length (as you mentioned).

Here is a pic of factory line with a 1" extension bracket on it.
