I bought a 90 wrangler 5 sp. 2.5 . Was told it had a shot transmission. It shifts into all the gears and moves but makes a lapping clunking sound that goes away when clutch is activated. Throwout bearing? All help greatly appreciated

i would say it sounds like your transmission is bad

I doubt its the throwout bearing.

ok...got the tranny out...when you rotate the shaft...it clunks only at a certain spot in the revolution. If the tranny is bad...is it easily repairable? I am not sure if is just one gear or not but as I said...when rotated...it makes a noise in an isolated spot.

also...it must be a primary driveline gear since it shifted into all the gears and moved before removal.

Pop it open and find out what's bad - then decide if the part(s) are worth it to fix or just pick up a used AX-5 and put it in.
