Just bought a fuel filter, looked up how to install it in the Haynes manual, and saw that it read: "Warning: On port fuel injected engines, the system must be unpressurized before any work is performed." Does any-one know if the fuel is still pressurized in a 4.0 once the engine is off? Also, this is a fairly easy procedure to replace the filter right(never done it before)?

It is but quite honestly, it's not a big deal to either loosen the filter up and slowly remove it without getting sprayed or releasing pressure through the test valve (on the fuel rail). When I've done it, I've never had but a few drops come out.

Yep...still pressurized...if you will refer to that same Haynes manual, and good for you for having and using one, you will notice that there's a Schrader valve on the fuel rail for depressurizing the system...just remove the screw on cover, and depress the tit...and there ya go!

Safer, cleaner, easier. Take a paper towel or rag, put that over the release valve and stick a screwdriver in there. You'll see the fuel seep into the rag. Thats all it takes to release the pressure. Beware, the fuel filter has covered me in fuel before, so take your time getting it out.

Try changing out the filter in the morning after vehicle has sit all night. Getting the clamp back on the filter is not always the easiest.

nvmd sorry bout that, I found it, just a little farther up than I thought. After taking off the cover though, something fell which I didn't notice where it came from. It looks like a metal cap about an inch in diameter and about .5 inch thick, where is it supposed to go?

I don't know? Where on the U-joint would I look? Is that a problem?

A U-Joint cap back there would have come from your driveshaft but to be honest, that looks a little big for a stock driveshaft (assumption here). The other locations for u-joints are your front driveshaft and the front wheels. I would be willing to bet that you picked that up on the road somewhere and it's just been hitching a ride!

yeah, you had the correct assumption...stock drive shaft. Your probably right about I picked it up and it's been catching a ride ever since, but where would I look on the back drive shaft to be certain? Is it dangerous to be driving(if it belongs to me) without it? Thanks

If that was missing off your back driveshaft, you would know.

I just looked at the rear yoke and both caps seem to be in place(if I'm looking at the right thing.) So my new question is where on the front drive-shaft and wheels are those caps? and any other locations in the rear?
