I might be buying a '95 Sahara instead of the '88 I wanted. I found one with 100K one owner miles and it looks great...original hardtop. All original, no body work....just highway miles. $8000 Seems in line with others I've seen, but also seems a bit high too. If you were looking to start off with a good YJ.....would this be it?

Thanks for your input!
Jeff

The prices in here in Washington are some of the highest in the country and that still seems a little high. My 95 4 cyl had a little more miles and was $5000.

Is it the 6 cyl or the 4? I might be willing to spend more $ on a 6.

If it's a Sahara then it should be the 6 cly.

$8000 seems aweful high to me (here in New England)
For that money I can get a late 90's TJ.

That seema real high. I paid 6000 for my 93 bone stock, one owner and it had 67,xxx miles on it. Thsi is with the 6cyl but it had a soft top but still that price seems high. He probably thinks its worth gold and it really isnt.

If your just gonna start modding it anyways you don't really need such a great starting jeep to begin with, as you will just be putting stuff on cutting it it up or trailing it beating all the niceness out of it.

Heck, how can we know? How's it feel to ya? If that eight grand is gonna buy you a one-owner, trouble free vehicle with a known history, maybe it's not such a bad deal... I'd sell my own 89 for nothing less than that, and although it's a coupla grand higher than the typical kid-built 'raise it up in the air so high I need a ladder' YJ, I can tell ya that every part in my Jeep is workin' in sync and I'm confident that it's gonna stay that way for a long time with routine maintenance, and that's a strong selling point! If you buy a lesser vehicle for a coupla grand less and it needs three to four grand of repairs...where's the savings?

Plus, this '95 has fuel injection...installing that on your 88 is a $2500 plus pull... So I'd say negotiate on that Sahara, try to get it down, and don't forget that this is NOT the time of year to be selling a vehicle...it's a great time of year to buy a vehicle, if you've got the budget.

Priced too high. I see 95 saharas all time around here for 5-6k. And there is really no reason to pay that when the newer model ones are about that and you get the better ride.

it depends, around here, that is about $3k too high. But in some places jeeps go for alot.

If it is that clean and you want it, throw him a low ball number and see if he takes it, if not work up untill you reach a price you like.

Most private sales on any car is listed about $1000-1500 more than the person expects to get, thus leaving them room to negotiate with out really lossing any money

Go on ebay and look under the advanced search. Check the closed auctions only. then input the year in both boxes and the word sahara. Only look at the Green sales prices because the red did not sell. This will give you a good Idea on the selling price. Add or subtract for any differences. This method is the best way. It Gives you what people are paying at that time. Closed auctions only go back 1 month so the prices are current. Besides Jeeps are not Fuel efficant and everyone is looking for little cars and trucks right now. So the prices are working there way DOWN for them. Hell my Ford Expedition gets better gas mileage that a Jeep Wrangler.

Picked mine up couple years back in Boston for $6000, 70k miles 6cyl auto mint body. So, yours seems a bit pricey to me.

like some of the others said, throw a low ball price at him and go for it. i bought a 95 YJ rio grande a couple of years ago for 4500.00. it is a low milage (90k) well taken care of jeep like the one you are looking at. mine is bone stock, and thats the way its going to stay, so iam happy. if you plan to throw a bunch of money for mods, then yes, the price is a little high.

Bargain! But then I live in South Africa, where you can't get a YJ for less than ZAR90,000 (about $12,000). Those prices are great - you lucky people :-)

The Sahara on E-Bay is pretty close. It sold for $6,000 but it wasn't auto, and it didn't have full hard doors, nor was it a hardtop. So....the all original '95 I'm looking at with auto, hard top and doors might be close in comparison to the one sold near me. Thanks for the link!

The other reason this YJ appeals to me is the fact that it is the last year YJ, all original Sahara in such nice condition with no body repairs. I have a Rubicon TJ, Rubicon Sahara LJ, and locked XJ...and I wanted a YJ to "round off" my Jeep collection if you will.....JAS Syndrome (Jeep Acquisition Syndrome).

I want a mild lift with tall skinny tires....for family excursions, and to give it that "factory mod" look. I like the Chip Foose way of doing things. Modify it just enough so that you have to look at it twice to figure out what was done.

So...I won't be cutting it all up. Rather, I want to design it with mild mods for my enjoyment. I already have the XJ setup for Tellico :) Why couldn't I just collect knives or something really small!!!

I'm sure you've done your research do what makes you happy. I would like everyone else said shoot them a lower number and go from there. People busted my chops for buying my Yj until they say it and rode in it now there all eager to help me work on it

I got my 94 Sahara that had 116K miles on it for 1500 bucks. The only difference is that I needed to replace some body parts on the thing.

Also depends on what it comes with. Mine came with A/C (ditched that), a GREAT sound system, Lockers, 33 inch mud tires on PS rims, etc. Granted I am replacing (or replaced) some of it, LOL, but it kind of gives me some idea.

No comment on price as it varies per region and time of year.

But a one owner vehicle with all service receipts would be worth more than one whose history is not known.
